Test J: Brake Warning Indicator Is Always On
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect parking brake switch connector C930. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If brake warning indicator turns off, install new parking brake switch and retest. If brake warning indicator remains on, go to next step.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect brake fluid level switch connector C810. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If brake warning indicator turns off, go to next step. If brake warning indicator remains on, go to step 4
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 3 (Black/Red wire) at brake fluid level switch harness connector C810. If resistance is more than 10 k/ohms, replace brake fluid level switch and retest. If resistance is less than 10 k/ohms, repair short to ground in Black/Red wire and retest.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect instrument cluster connector C809. See Figure. Measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 2 (Black/Yellow wire) at brake fluid level switch harness connector C810. If resistance is more than 10 k/ohms, go to next step. If resistance is less than 10 k/ohms, repair short to ground in Black/Yellow wire and retest.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Check for corrosion, pushed out pins and connectors that are not connected properly. Repair any damage found and reconnect any loose connectors. Operate system. If problem still exists, replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Configure replacement instrument cluster, see appropriate MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK article. If problem does not exist, then system is operating properly at this time, clear any DTCs and retest.
