Test I: Brake Warning Indicator Is Never On

  1. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Select instrument cluster active command ALL LAMPS ON and OFF. If brake warning indicator illuminates and turns off, go to step  5. If brake warning indicator illuminates and remains on, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect parking brake switch connector C930. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Connect a 5-amp fused jumper wire between terminal No. 1 (Black/Red wire) on harness side of parking brake switch connector C930. If parking brake warning indicator Illuminates, replace parking brake switch and retest. If parking brake warning indicator does not illuminate, go to next step.
  3. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect brake fluid level switch connector C810. Measure resistance between terminal No. 1 (Black/Red wire) at parking brake switch connector C930 and terminal No. 3 (Black/Red wire) at brake fluid level harness connector C810. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in (Black/Red wire) and retest.
  4. Measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 1 (Black/Blue wire) at brake fluid level switch harness connector C810. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace brake fluid level switch and retest. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Black/Blue wire and retest.
  5. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Check for corrosion, pushed out pins and connectors that are not connected properly. Repair any damage found and reconnect any loose connectors. Operate system. If problem still exists, replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Configure replacement instrument cluster, see appropriate MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK article. If problem does not exist, then system is operating properly at this time, clear any DTCs and retest.
