Test F: Incorrect Temperature Gauge Indication

  1. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Connect NGS tester (418-F052). Retrieve and record continuous DTCs. If DTC U1073 is present, see appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. If DTC U1073 is not present, go to next step.
  2. Select instrument cluster active command ENGCOOLNT. Scroll to 0, 50 and 100 percent. If temperature gauge displays 0 at zero percent and 50 at 50 percent and 100 at 100 percent, gauge is working but not receiving a signal from PCM. See appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. If temperature gauge does not display 0 at zero percent and 50 at 50 percent and 100 at 100 percent, go to next step.
  3. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Check for corrosion, pushed out pins and connectors that are not connected properly. Repair any damage found and reconnect any loose connectors. Operate system. If problem still exists, replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Configure replacement instrument cluster, see appropriate MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK article. If problem does not exist, then system is operating properly at this time, clear any DTCs and retest.
