Torque CONVERTOR Engagement Test

NOTE: If DTC P0741, P0743, P1740, P1741, P1742, P1743, P1744 or P1767 are retrieved during KOEO or KOER self-tests, see TEST C  under SYSTEM TESTS.
  1. Connect tachometer. Warm engine to normal operating temperature. Ensure transaxle fluid level is correct. Maintain about 50 MPH. Tap brake pedal with left foot.
  2. Engine RPM should increase when brake pedal is tapped and decrease about 5 seconds after pedal is released. If torque converter clutch operation is not as specified, see TROUBLE SHOOTING in FORD F4E-III (MAZDA FA4A-EL) OVERHAUL article.
