Test W: Message Center Switch Not Operating Correctly
- Using New Generation Star (NGS) tester, perform Message Center Module (MCM) self-test. If no DTCs were retrieved, go to next step. If DTC B1205 is retrieved, go to step 3. If any other DTCs were retrieved, perform appropriate test in accordance with DTC retrieved. See MESSAGE CENTER MODULE (MCM) DTC INDEX table under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
- Using NGS, select and monitor MCM PID RESETSW, INFOSW and SETUPSW while pressing each message center button (INFO, SETUP and RESET). If PID does not agree with button position, go to next step. If PID agrees with button position, replace instrument cluster.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Remove instrument cluster. Disconnect instrument cluster 22-pin harness connector C239 and message center switch harness connector C280. Measure resistance between instrument cluster harness connector C239 terminal No. 7 (Gray/Orange wire) and message center switch harness connector C280 terminal No. 1 (Gray/Orange wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Gray/Orange wire.
- Measure resistance between instrument cluster harness connector C239 terminal No. 7 (Gray/Orange wire) and ground. If resistance is more than 10 k/ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 10 k/ohms or less, repair short to ground in Gray/Orange wire.
- Measure resistance between instrument cluster harness connector C239 terminal No. 4 (Tan/Orange wire) and message center harness connector C280 terminal No. 5 (Tan/Orange wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Tan/Orange wire.
- Measure resistance between instrument cluster harness connector C239 terminal No. 4 (Tan/Orange wire) and ground. If resistance is more than 10 k/ohms, replace message center switch. If resistance is 10 k/ohms or less, repair short to ground in Tan/Orange wire.
