Test O: Traction Control Indicator Is Inoperative/Always On
- Using New Generation Star (NGS) tester, perform instrument cluster self-test. If no DTCs were retrieved, go to next step. If DTC U1043 is retrieved, see appropriate ANTI-LOCK article in BRAKES for testing procedure. If any other DTCs were retrieved, perform appropriate test in accordance with DTC retrieved. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER DTC INDEX table under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
- Select instrument cluster WARNING LAMPS AND CHIME active command. Trigger ALL LAMPS active command. Observe TRAC ACTIVE and TRAC OFF indicators. If both indicators are illuminated, go to next step. If TRAC ACTIVE indicator is always on, repair traction control system. See appropriate ANTI-LOCK article in BRAKES for testing procedure. If both indicators are not illuminated, replace instrument cluster.
- Select and monitor instrument cluster PID TRAC_SW with traction off switch in OFF and ON positions. If PID agrees with switch position, go to next step. If PID does not agree switch position, replace instrument cluster.
- Disconnect traction off switch 6-pin harness connector C257. Connect a 10-amp fused jumper wire between traction off switch harness connector C257 terminal No. 3 (White/Pink wire) and ground. Turn ignition switch to ON position. If TRAC OFF indicator illuminates, go to next step. If TRAC OFF indicator does not illuminate, repair open in White/Pink wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
- Measure resistance between traction off switch harness connector C257 terminal No. 4 (Black wire) and ground. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace traction off switch. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Black wire.
