Test H: Safety Belt Warning Indicator Is Inoperative (Chime Is Operative)/ Does Not Operate Correctly

  1. Using New Generation Star (NGS) tester, perform Front Electronic Module (FEM) self-test. If DTC B1462 was retrieved, go to next step. If any other DTCs were retrieved, perform appropriate test in accordance with DTC retrieved. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER DTC INDEX  table under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If no DTCs were retrieved, go to step  8.
  2. Verify safety belt is unbuckled. Clear DTCs and repeat FEM self-test. If DTC B1462 is retrieved, go to next step. If DTC B1462 is not retrieved, go to step  8.
  3. Using NGS tester, select and monitor FEM PID D_SBELT. If PID reads IN, go to next step. If PID does not read IN, replace FEM.
  4. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect safety belt switch 2-pin harness connector C304. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Connect a fused jumper wire between safety belt switch harness connector C304 terminal No. 1 (Orange wire) and ground. Select and monitor FEM PID D_SBELT. If PID reads OUT, go to next step. If PID does not read OUT, remove jumper wire and go to step  6. If fused jumper blows, remove jumper wire and go to step  7.
  5. Measure resistance between safety belt switch harness connector C304 terminal No. 2 (Black wire) and ground. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace safety belt switch (part of buckle end). If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Black wire.
  6. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect FEM 20-pin harness connector C346. Measure resistance between FEM harness connector C346 terminal No. 10 (Orange wire) and safety belt switch harness connector C304 terminal No. 1 (Orange wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Orange wire.
  7. Measure voltage between FEM harness connector C346 terminal No. 10 (Orange wire) and ground. If voltage is present, repair short to voltage in Orange wire. If voltage is not present, replace FEM.
  8. Using NGS tester, select and monitor FEM PID D_SBELT while fastening and unfastening safety belt. If PID does not read IN, go to next step. If PID reads IN, replace instrument cluster.
  9. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect safety belt switch 2-pin harness connector C304. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Select and monitor FEM PID D_SBELT. If PID does not read IN, go to next step. If PID reads IN, replace safety belt switch (part of buckle end).
  10. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect FEM 20-pin harness connector C346. Measure resistance between FEM harness connector C346 terminal No. 10 (Orange wire) and safety belt harness connector C304 terminal No. 1 (Orange wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace FEM. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Orange wire.
