Test Ab: Dim Panel Potentiometer Switch Circuit Failure

  1. Using New Generation Star (NGS) tester, perform instrument cluster self-test. If no DTCs were retrieved, go to next step. If DTC B1246 is retrieved, go to step  3. If any other DTCs were retrieved, perform appropriate test in accordance with DTC retrieved. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER DTC INDEX  table under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  2. Place headlight switch in ON position. Using NGS tester, monitor panel dimmer switch input status PID while turning panel dim switch from lowest position to highest position. If PID does not agree with panel dim switch position, go to next step. If PID agrees with panel dim switch position, replace instrument cluster.
  3. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect instrument cluster harness connectors and panel dim switch 4-pin harness connector C259. Measure resistance between panel dim switch harness connector C259 terminal No. 4 (Black/White wire) and instrument cluster harness connector C239 terminal No. 2 (Black/White wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Black/White wire.
  4. Measure resistance between panel dim switch harness connector C259 terminal No. 4 (Black/White wire) and ground. If resistance is more than 10 k/ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 10 k/ohms or less, repair short to ground in Black/White wire.
  5. Measure resistance in Yellow wire between panel dim switch harness connector C259 terminal No. 3 and instrument cluster harness connector C239 terminal No. 1. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Yellow wire.
  6. Measure resistance between panel dim switch harness connector C259 terminal No. 3 (Yellow wire) and ground. If resistance is more than 10 k/ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 10 k/ohms or less, repair short to ground in Yellow wire.
  7. Measure resistance in Light Blue/Black wire between panel dim switch harness connector C259 terminal No. 2 and instrument cluster harness connector C239 terminal No. 3. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Light Blue/Black wire.
  8. Measure resistance between panel dim switch harness connector C259 terminal No. 2 (Light Blue/Black wire) and ground. If resistance is more than 10 k/ohms, replace panel dim switch. If resistance is 10 k/ohms or less, repair short to ground in Light Blue/Black wire.
