Test M: Low Washer Fluid Warning Display Is Inoperative/Always On

  1. Using New Generation Star (NGS) tester, perform Front Electronic Module (FEM) self-test. If DTC B1482 is retrieved, go to next step. If no DTCs were retrieved, go to step  4.
  2. Select and monitor FEM PID WFLUID. If PID reads LOW, go to next step. If PID does not read LOW, replace FEM.
  3. Disconnect washer fluid level switch 2-pin harness connector C117. Monitor FEM PID WFLUID. If PID reads OK, replace washer fluid level switch. If PID does not read OK, repair short to ground in Gray wire.
  4. Disconnect washer fluid level switch 2-pin harness connector C117. Monitor FEM PID WFLUID. Connect a 10-amp fused jumper wire between washer fluid level switch harness connector C117 terminal No. 1 (Gray wire) and ground. Monitor FEM PID WFLUID. If PID does not read OK and change to LOW, remove jumper, exit PID and go to next step. If fused jumper wire blows, remove jumper and go to step  6. If PID changes from OK to LOW, go to step  7.
  5. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect FEM 22-pin harness connector C191. Measure resistance between FEM harness connector C191 terminal No. 15 (Gray wire) and washer fluid level switch harness connector C117 terminal No. 1 (Gray wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Gray wire.
  6. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect FEM 22-pin harness connector C191. Measure voltage between FEM harness connector C191 terminal No. 15 (Gray wire) and ground. If voltage is present, repair short to voltage in Gray wire. If no voltage present, replace FEM.
  7. Measure resistance between washer fluid level switch harness connector C117 terminal No. 2 (Black wire) and ground. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Black wire.
  8. Measure resistance between washer fluid level switch terminals No. 1 and 2 (component side), while reservoir is empty and then full. Resistance should be less than 5 ohms when empty and more than 10 k/ohms when full. If resistance is as specified, replace instrument cluster. If resistance is not as specified, replace washer fluid level switch.
