Diagnostic Procedure
NOTE:
If no DTCs are present but driveability problem still exists, proceed to FORD AX4N OVERHAUL article for symptom diagnosis procedures.
- Perform QUICK TEST . Record all DTCs. If any transaxle-related DTCs are set, go to next step. If no DTCs are set, go to step 4 . If any engine-related DTCs are set, repair them first. See appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. If no continuous memory codes were set, go to step 4 .
- If any DTCs set in previous step were continuous memory codes, clear all DTCs. See CLEARING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES . Perform TRANSAXLE DRIVE CYCLE TEST . If continuous memory codes are set during transaxle drive cycle test, go to next step. If continuous memory codes are not set during transmission drive cycle test, go to step 4 .
- Perform diagnostic test corresponding to DTC. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE IDENTIFICATION table under READING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES. If concern is not corrected, go to next step. If concern is corrected, go to step 7 .
- Diagnose concern by symptom. See SYMPTOM DIAGNOSIS under TROUBLE SHOOTING. If electronic symptoms exist, go to next step. If no electronic symptoms exist, go to step 6 .
- Follow system tests corresponding to electronic symptom. Perform static and drive tests. To perform static tests, use manufacturer provided transmission tester overlay. If drive test does not diagnose concern, go to next step. If drive test diagnoses concern, check for intermittent DTC. Check transaxle circuit wiring harnesses and connectors for damage or poor connection.
- Diagnose concern by mechanical symptom. See SYMPTOM DIAGNOSIS under TROUBLE SHOOTING in FORD AX4N OVERHAUL article. Perform any recommended repair procedures. Perform TRANSAXLE DRIVE CYCLE TEST .
- Check for DTCs. See QUICK TEST . Ensure no DTCs and no mechanical concerns exist. If any DTCs exist, go to step 1 . If no DTCs exist, clear memory DTC. See CLEARING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES .
