WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.

  1. Electronic Diagnostics

Ensure transaxle harness connector is fully seated. Ensure gearshift lever is in "P" position. Connect NGS tester or equivalent to DLC. Perform KEY ON ENGINE OFF (KOEO) SELF-TEST  until continuous memory codes have been displayed. Confirm DTCs P1714, P1715, P1716 and/or P1740 are still present. If any DTCs for shift solenoids or TFT sensor are present, repair those DTCs first. Clear DTCs. See CLEARING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES  under DIAGNOSIS & TESTING. Perform TRANSAXLE DRIVE CYCLE TEST  under DIAGNOSIS & TESTING. Repeat QUICK TEST  under DIAGNOSIS & TESTING. If no other DTCs are present, replace appropriate solenoid. Go to next step.
  2. Transaxle Drive Cycle Test

Perform TRANSAXLE DRIVE CYCLE TEST  under DIAGNOSIS & TESTING. If transaxle upshifts and downshifts correctly, go to next step. If transaxle does not upshift or downshift correctly, see SYMPTOM DIAGNOSIS under TROUBLE SHOOTING in FORD AX4S OVERHAUL article.
  3. Retrieve DTCs

Ensure gearshift lever is in "P" position. Connect NGS tester or equivalent to DLC. Perform KEY ON ENGINE OFF (KOEO) SELF-TEST  until continuous memory codes have been displayed. If DTCs P1714, P1715, P1716 and/or P1740 are still present, replace PCM. Clear DTCs. See CLEARING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES  under DIAGNOSIS & TESTING. Repeat QUICK TEST  under DIAGNOSIS & TESTING. Perform TRANSAXLE DRIVE CYCLE TEST  under DIAGNOSIS & TESTING. If DTCs P1714, P1715, P1716 and/or P1740 are not present, test is complete. If concern still exists, see SYMPTOM DIAGNOSIS under TROUBLE SHOOTING in FORD AX4S OVERHAUL article.
