Removal & Installation (3.9L)

- Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove 2 pivot arm nut covers and 2 nuts from wiper pivot arms. Remove 2 wiper pivot arms. Remove left and right side cowl vent screen extension panels. Disconnect windshield washer nozzle hoses from engine main wiring harness at lower right side of engine compartment.
- Remove 9 pin-type retainers and remove cowl vent screen. Remove 7 bolts and remove strut support brace. See Figure. Partially drain engine cooling system. See COOLING SYSTEM DRAINING under COOLING SYSTEM. Disconnect degas return hose from degas return tube.
- Remove bolts and position degas bottle aside. Remove windshield wiper mounting arm and pivot shaft bolts. Disconnect drain boot from windshield wiper mounting arm and pivot shaft assembly. Position windshield wiper mounting arm and pivot shaft assembly aside, and loosen upper windshield wiper motor bolt.
- Rotate wiper output arm to 6 o'clock position. Remove lower wiper motor bolts and remove windshield wiper mounting arm and pivot shaft assembly. Disconnect wiper motor connector. Remove bolt, windshield wiper motor crank bolt and windshield wiper motor.
- Remove harness bracket nuts and stud from cylinder head and position bracket aside. Disconnect Camshaft Position (CMP) sensor connector. Remove bolt and remove CMP sensor. To install, reverse removal procedure. Tighten all bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
NOTE:
Cowl top vent screen, strut support brace and wiper motor must be removed to access CMP sensor.
NOTE:
Cowl vent screen pin-type retainers are reusable.
NOTE:
When positioning degas bottle aside it will be necessary to re-route degas bottle lower hose in front of brake booster.
NOTE:
It is necessary to rotate bottom of windshield wiper mounting arm and pivot shaft assembly upward.
CAUTION:
DO NOT overtighten screw or damage to CMP sensor may occur.
