Cooling System Draining

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Lincoln LS. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: Less than 80 percent of coolant capacity can be recovered with engine in vehicle. Dirty, rusty or contaminated coolant should be drained and filled with NEW coolant.

Release pressure in cooling system by slowly turning pressure relief cap 1/2 turn counterclockwise or radiator cap counterclockwise to first stop. When pressure is released, remove pressure relief cap/radiator cap. Place a suitable container below radiator petcock. If equipped, disconnect coolant return hose at oil cooler. Drain engine coolant. Close radiator petcock.
