Pinpoint Test C: The Engine Does Not Reach Normal Operating Temperature

  1. C1 CHECK THE ENGINE TEMPERATURE 
    • Key in START position.
    • NOTE: If the engine is a diesel, drive for 20 minutes in 2nd gear to open the thermostat.
    • For a gas engine, start the engine and allow the engine to idle for 10 minutes.
    • Feel the inlet heater hose and the underside of the upper radiator hose.
    • Are the upper radiator hose and the inlet heater hose cold? 
    • Yes  : INSTALL a new coolant thermostat. TEST the system for normal operation.
    • No  : REFER to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER for diagnosis and testing of the engine coolant temperature gauge.
