Rod Bearings

  1. Ensure connecting rod and cap have matching identification marks. Ensure bearing oil clearance and side play are within specification. See CRANKSHAFT, MAIN & CONNECTING ROD BEARINGS  and CONNECTING RODS  tables under ENGINE SPECIFICATIONS.
  2. If oil clearance exceeds specification, try using a different combination of rod bearings. See SELECTIVE MAIN & ROD BEARINGS  table. Use only bearing combinations listed in table.
  3. If oil clearance cannot be adjusted to standard specification with listed bearing combinations, grind crankshaft and use undersize bearings. Rod bearings are available in .010" (.25 mm), .020" (.50 mm) and .030" (.75 mm) undersizes. Tighten connecting rod bearing cap nuts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
