Removal & Installation
- Disconnect battery ground cable. Relieve fuel pressure. See FUEL PRESSURE RELIEF . Drain fuel from non-flexible fuel vehicles with a siphon pump through fuel tank filler pipe. Flexible fuel vehicles have an anti-siphon screen in tank filler pipe. Drain fuel from flexible fuel vehicles using a siphon pump connected to fuel return tube at quick disconnect.
- Raise vehicle on hoist. Loosen fuel tank filler pipe and vent hose clamps at metal lines and remove hoses.
- Using Fuel Disconnect Tool Set (T90T-9550-S), disconnect push connect fittings for rear fuel supply return. Disconnect vapor tubes at fuel filter and steel line behind fuel filter.
- Disconnect electrical harness connector for fuel tank wiring at left side of fuel filter. Disconnect White plastic push-connect fitting connecting line from evaporative emission tube shutoff valve to evaporative emissions canister.
- Place support under fuel tank and remove bolts from rear of fuel tank support straps. Swing support straps forward on hinges to clear tank. Remove tank from vehicle. On flexible fuel vehicles, remove plastic shield with fuel tank.
- On all vehicles, to prevent contamination of fuel and fuel tank, clean dirt and debris from around fuel pump module retaining flange. Using Fuel Tank Sender Wrench (D90P-9275-A), turn fuel pump locking retainer ring counterclockwise and remove locking retainer ring.
- Pull fuel pump module sender plate up out of tank until locking tabs for module are accessible. Squeeze both locking tabs together and remove fuel pump module from fuel tank. Remove "O" ring seal and discard. To install, reverse removal procedure, using NEW "O" ring.
