Test I: Safety Belt Indicator Is Inoperative (Chime Is Operative)/Does Not Operate Correctly

  1. Connect New Generation Star (NGS) tester to Data Link Connector (DLC). Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Monitor Generic Electronic Module (GEM) PIDs IGN_KEY, IGN_S, IGN_R and IGN_A while cycling ignition switch through all position. If PIDs agree with ignition switch position, go to next step. If PIDs does not agree with ignition switch position, perform TEST V: KEY-IN-IGNITION WARNING CHIME DOES NOT OPERATE PROPERLY  .
  2. Using NGS tester, monitor GEM PID D_SBELT while buckling and unbuckling driver's seat belt. If PID agrees with seat belt position, go to next step. If PID does not agree with seat belt position, perform TEST Z: SEAT BELT WARNING CHIME DOES NOT OPERATE PROPERLY  .
  3. Ensure seat belt is unbuckled. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If seat belt indicator does not illuminate for 3 seconds then go out, go to next step. If seat belt indicator illuminates for 3 seconds then goes out, replace GEM.
  4. Buckle driver's seat belt. If seat belt indicator is always illuminated, go to next step. If seat belt indicator is not always illuminated, go to step  7 .
  5. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect GEM harness connector C352. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If seat belt indicator is always on, go to next step. If seat belt indicator goes out, replace GEM.
  6. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect instrument cluster harness connector C250. Measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 26 (Dark Green/Light Green wire) at GEM harness connector C352. See Fig 1 . If resistance is greater than 10 k/ohms, replace instrument cluster. If resistance is 10 k/ohms or less, repair short to ground in Dark Green/Light Green wire.
  7. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect instrument cluster harness connector C250. Disconnect GEM harness connector C352. Measure voltage at terminal No. 26 (Dark Green/Light Green wire) at GEM harness connector C352. See Fig 1 . If voltage does not exist, go to next step. If voltage exists, repair short to voltage in Dark Green/Light Green wire.
  8. Connect instrument cluster harness connector C250. Using a fused jumper wire, ground terminal No. 26 (Dark Green/Light Green wire) at GEM harness connector C352. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If seat belt indicator does not illuminate, go to next step. If seat belt indicator light illuminates, replace GEM.
  9. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect instrument cluster harness connector C250. Measure resistance in Dark Green/Light Green wire between terminal No. 26 at GEM harness connector C352 and terminal No. 4 at instrument cluster harness connector C250. See Fig 1 and Fig 2 . If resistance is 5 ohms or less, replace bulb or instrument cluster as necessary. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in Dark Green/Light Green wire.
