Test Aa: Fuel Tank Sensor Circuit Failure (DTC B1219)

  1. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using New Generation Star (NGS), monitor Natural Gas Vehicle (NGV) module PID TANKPR. If PID indicates zero psi, go to next step. If PID does not indicate zero psi, check connectors for loose and corroded pins. If all connections are clean and tight, clear DTCs. Using NGS tester, perform NGV module self-test. If DTC B1219 is retrieved again, replace NGV module.
  2. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect NGV module harness connector C1012. Install 60-pin Breakout Box (014-00322) following manufacturer's instructions. Leave NGV module disconnected. Disconnect fuel tank pressure sensor harness connector C349 (located on left center of vehicle, on fuel tank). Measure resistance between breakout box pin No. 7 and 46. If resistance is more than 10 k/ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 10 k/ohms or less, repair short between Red/Pink and Gray/Red wires of fuel tank pressure sensor circuit.
  3. Connect NGV module harness connector C1012 to 60-pin breakout box. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Measure voltage between Brown/White wire and Gray/Red wire terminals at fuel tank pressure sensor harness connector C349. If voltage is 4-6 volts, go to next step. If voltage is not 4-6 volts, go to step  6.
  4. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Using a fused jumper wire, connect Brown/White wire and Red/Pink wire terminals at fuel tank pressure sensor harness connector C349. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using a voltmeter, measure voltage between breakout box pin No. 7 and 26. If voltage is 4.61 volts or less, go to next step. If voltage is more than 4.61 volts, go to step  6.
  5. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect breakout box from NGV module. Measure resistance in Brown/White wire between breakout box pin No. 26 fuel tank pressure sensor harness connector C349. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Brown/White wire. Brown/White wire runs between terminal No. 26 at NGV harness connector, in line connector C100 (located at left rear of engine compartment, below engine access cover) and fuel tank pressure sensor. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, repair open in Red/Pink wire. Red/Pink wire runs between terminal No. 7 at NGV harness connector, in line connector C100 (located at left rear of engine compartment, below engine access cover) and fuel tank pressure sensor.
  6. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect breakout box from NGV module. Measure resistance in Gray/Red wire between breakout box pin No. 46 and fuel tank pressure sensor harness connector C349. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Gray/Red wire between terminal No. 46 at NGV module harness connector C1012, in line connector C100 (located at left rear of engine compartment, below engine access cover), splice S316 (located at center of vehicle on fuel tank temperature sensor) and fuel tank pressure sensor.
  7. Measure resistance between breakout box pins No. 40 or 60 and No. 26. If resistance is more than 10 k/ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 10 k/ohms or less, repair short to ground in Brown/White wire between terminal No. 26 at NGV harness connector C1012, in line connector C100 (located at left rear of engine compartment, below engine access cover) and fuel tank pressure sensor harness connector C349.
  8. Measure resistance between breakout box pins No. 40 or 60 and pin No. 46. If resistance is more than 10 k/ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 10 k/ohms or less, repair short to ground in Gray/Red wire between NGV module and fuel tank pressure sensor.
  9. Measure resistance in Brown/White wire between breakout box pin No. 26 and fuel tank pressure sensor harness connector C349. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Brown/White wire runs between terminal No. 26 at NGV harness connector C1012, in-line connector C100 (located at left rear of engine compartment, below engine access cover) and fuel tank pressure sensor harness connector C349.
  10. Measure voltage of Brown/White wire at fuel tank pressure sensor harness connector C349. If battery voltage is not present, go to next step. If battery voltage exists, repair short to voltage in Brown/White wire between terminal No. 26 at NGV harness connector C1012, in-line connector C100 (located at left rear of engine compartment, below engine access cover) and fuel tank pressure sensor harness connector C349.
  11. Check operation of fuel tank solenoids. See appropriate SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. If fuel tank solenoids operate properly, go to next step. If fuel tank solenoid(s) do not operate properly, repair fuel tank solenoid(s) as necessary.
  12. Check fuel system for leaks. See appropriate SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. If fuel system leaks, repair as necessary. If fuel system does not leak, replace NGV module.
