Windshield Glass: Installation

  1. Install the glass moulding prior to glass installation.
  2. Inspect the glass spacer blocks for damage. If necessary, install new spacer blocks.
  3. Dry fit the windshield. Make alignment marks with tape or a non-staining pencil.
  4. Trim the remaining urethane adhesive on the pinch weld to within specification. The surface should be smooth, free of cuts and contamination.

  5. CAUTION: Be sure to use the same brand and cure-rate products for the adhesive and primer. Do not mix different brands of urethane and primer. Refer to the MATERIAL ITEM SPECIFICATION  Chart.
    NOTE: Sika uses the same black primer for the glass and pinch weld area.
  6. If installing a new windshield glass, apply urethane glass primer according to manufacturer's instructions. Allow at least 6 minutes to dry.
  7. Cut the urethane applicator tip to specification.

  8. Apply a bead of urethane adhesive to the pinch weld just outside the foam dam.

  9. Install the windshield by aligning it to the marks previously made.
  10. After the windshield glass has set, check for water leaks and add urethane where needed.
  11. Install the Y-clips.
    • Each Y-clip snaps into a slot on the bottom of the roof ditch moulding.

  12. Install the roof ditch mouldings.
  13. Install the cowl panel grille. For additional information, REFER to FRONT END BODY PANELS .
  14. Raise the front portion of the headliner near the windshield upper opening and install.
  15. Install the interior rear view mirror. For additional information, REFER to REAR VIEW MIRRORS .
  16. Install the RH and LH side A-pillar trim panels, sun visors, retainers and, if equipped, overhead console. For additional information, REFER to INTERIOR TRIM AND ORNAMENTATION .
