Pinpoint Test S: The Fog Lamps Are Inoperative

  1. S1 CHECK LOW BEAM HEADLAMPS 
    • Inspect the low beam headlamp operation.
    • Do the low beams operate correctly? 
  2. S2 CHECK HEADLAMP SWITCH OUTPUT 
    • Disconnect: Central Junction Box (CJB) C270a.
    • Key in ON position.
      NOTE: Headlamps must be on and in the low beam position.

      Turn the headlamp switch to the ON position and engage the fog lamp switch.

    • Measure the voltage between CJB C270a-17, circuit 276 (BN) harness side and ground.

    • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? 
    • Yes  : TURN the headlamp switch off. GO to  S5.
    • No  : TURN the headlamp switch off. GO to S3.
  3. S3 CHECK THE HEADLAMP SWITCH OUTPUT CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Headlamp Switch C205a.
    • Measure the resistance between CJB C270a-17, circuit 276 (BN), harness side and headlamp switch C205a-5, circuit 275 (YE), harness side.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 
    • Yes  : GO to S4.
    • No  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
  4. S4 CHECK CIRCUIT 640 (RD/YE) FOR AN OPEN 
    • Key in ON position.
    • Measure the voltage between headlamp switch C205a-2, circuit 640 (RD/YE), harness side and ground.

    • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? 
    • Yes  : INSTALL a new headlamp switch. REFER to LAMP SWITCH - HEADLAMP . TEST the system for normal operation.
    • No  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
  5. S5 CHECK THE CJB 
    • Connect: CJB C270a.
    • Disconnect: CJB C270h.
      NOTE: Headlamps must be on and in the low beam position.

      Turn the headlamp switch to the ON position and engage the fog lamp switch.

    • Measure the voltage between CJB C270h-2, circuit 478 (TN/OG), component side and ground.

    • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? 
    • Yes  : TURN the headlamp switch off. GO to  S7.
    • No  : TURN the headlamp switch off. GO to S6.
  6. S6 CHECK 12 (LG/BK) FOR AN OPEN CIRCUIT 
    • Disconnect: CJB C270a.
    • Measure the resistance between CJB C270a-13, circuit 12 (LG/BK), harness side and ground.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 
    • Yes  : INSTALL a new CJB. TEST the system for normal operation.
    • No  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
  7. S7 CHECK FOG LAMP GROUND 
    • Disconnect: Inoperative Fog Lamp.
    • Measure the resistance between fog lamp connector pin 1, circuit 57 (BK), harness side and ground.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 
    • Yes  : REPAIR circuit 478 (TN/OG). TEST the system for normal operation.
    • No  : REPAIR circuit 57 (BK). TEST the system for normal operation.
