Removal & Installation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Mercury Villager. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Partially drain engine cooling system. See COOLING SYSTEM DRAINING  under COOLING SYSTEMS. Remove air cleaner outlet tube. Disconnect Throttle Position (TP) sensor, Idle Air Control (IAC) valve and TP switch electrical connectors.
  2. Disconnect accelerator and speed control cables from throttle linkage. Disconnect coolant hoses from throttle body. Remove throttle body retaining nuts. Remove throttle body and discard gasket. Install a NEW gasket. Install throttle body and nuts. Tighten throttle body nuts in 2 stages to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  3. Connect coolant hoses to throttle body. Connect accelerator and speed control cables to throttle linkage. Connect TP sensor, IAC valve and TP switch electrical connectors. Install air cleaner outlet tube. Fill and bleed engine cooling system. See COOLING SYSTEM FILLING & BLEEDING  under COOLING SYSTEMS.
