Test Procedure
WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 9 other vehicles, including the 2004 Ford RV Cutaway, 2004 Ford Pickup, 2004 Ford F550 Super Duty, 2004 Ford F450 Super Duty, and 2004 Ford Excursion. - Y1 DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCs) P0565, P0566, P0567, P0568, AND P0569 NOTE: When performing the key on engine running (KOER) self-test, wait five seconds after beginning the test before operating the speed control switches.
- DTCs P0565, P0566, P0567, P0568 and P0569 are set if the PCM does not detect a switch change of state during the KOER self-test.
- Possible causes:
- speed control switch not pressed during self-test
- signal circuit open or shorted
- signal return circuit open
- open in horn relay control circuit
- speed control switches
- clockspring
- PCM
- Access the SCCS PID.
- Key on, engine off.
- No switches pressed.
DOES THE PID INDICATE NONE?
Yes No Go to Y2. Go to Y5. - Y2 CHECK THE ON SWITCH
- Press the ON switch.
DOES THE PID INDICATE ON?
Yes No Go to Y3. Go to Y9. - Y3 CHECK THE OFF SWITCH
- Press the OFF switch.
DOES THE PID INDICATE OFF?
Yes No Go to Y4. Go to Y13. - Y4 CHECK THE COMMAND SWITCHES
- Press the RESUME, COAST and SET/ACCEL switches.
DOES THE PID INDICATE CORRECTLY?
Yes No CLEAR the DTCS. REPEAT the KOER self-test. If the DTC is present again, INSTALL a new PCM. INSTALL a new speed control switch. Refer to the appropriate SPEED CONTROL article. - Y5 CHECK THE SPEED CONTROL SWITCHES
- Key off.
- Disconnect the airbag. Refer to the appropriate AIRBAG RESTRAINT SYSTEM article.
- Disconnect the speed control switch.
- Key on, engine off.
- Access the SCCS PID.
DOES THE PID INDICATE NONE?
Yes No INSTALL a new speed control switch. Refer to the appropriate SPEED CONTROL article. Go to Y6. - Y6 CHECK THE CLOCKSPRING
- Key off.
- Disconnect the clockspring.
- Key on, engine off.
- Access the SCCS PID.
DOES THE PID INDICATE NONE?
Yes No INSTALL a new clockspring. Refer to the appropriate SPEED CONTROL article. If the PID indicates ON, Go to Y7.
If the PID indicates OFF, Go to Y8 - Y7 CHECK THE SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
- Key off.
- Disconnect the PCM body harness connector.
- Key on, engine off.
- Measure the voltage between the PCM body harness connector pin 31, harness and ground.
IS ANY VOLTAGE INDICATED?
Yes No REPAIR the circuit. INSTALL a new PCM. - Key off.
- Y8 CHECK THE SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Key off.
- Disconnect the PCM body harness connector.
- Measure the resistance between PCM body harness connector pin 31, harness side and ground.
IS THE RESISTANCE GREATER THAN 10,000 OHMS?
Yes No INSTALL a new PCM. REPAIR the circuit. - Y9 CHECK THE HORN OPERATION
- Check the horn operation.
DOES THE HORN OPERATE CORRECTLY?
Yes No Go to Y10. Refer to the appropriate HORN article. - Y10 CHECK THE SPEED CONTROL SWITCH OPERATION
- Key off.
- Disconnect the clockspring.
- For F-SuperDuty/Excursion, measure the resistance between the clockspring speed control signal circuit pin 3, component side and the clockspring horn relay control circuit pin 4, component side while pressing the ON switch.
- For E-Series, measure the resistance between the clockspring speed control signal circuit pin 4, component side and the clockspring horn relay control circuit pin 1, component side while pressing the ON switch.
IS THE RESISTANCE LESS THAN 5 OHMS WITH THE SWITCH PRESSED?
Yes No Go to Y11. Go to Y12. - Y11 CHECK THE SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
- Disconnect the PCM body harness connector.
- Measure the resistance between the clockspring speed control signal circuit pin 3 (F-SuperDuty/Excursion) or pin 4 (E-Series), harness side and the PCM body harness connector pin 31, harness side.
IS THE RESISTANCE LESS THAN 5 OHMS?
Yes No INSTALL a new PCM. REPAIR the circuit. - Y12 CHECK THE SPEED CONTROL SWITCH FOR AN OPEN
- Disconnect the airbag. Refer to the appropriate AIRBAG RESTRAINT SYSTEM article.
- Disconnect the speed control switch.
- For F-SuperDuty/Excursion, measure the resistance between the speed control switch signal circuit pin 3, component side and the speed control switch horn relay control circuit pin 4, component side while pressing the ON switch.
- For E-Series, measure the resistance between the speed control switch signal circuit pin 4, component side and the speed control switch horn relay control circuit pin 1, component side while pressing the ON switch.
IS THE RESISTANCE LESS THAN 5 OHMS WITH THE SWITCH PRESSED?
Yes No INSTALL a new clockspring. Refer to the appropriate SPEED CONTROL article. INSTALL a new speed control switch. Refer to the appropriate SPEED CONTROL article. - Y13 CHECK THE SPEED CONTROL SWITCH SIGNAL RETURN CIRCUIT
- Key off.
- Disconnect the clockspring.
- For F-SuperDuty/Excursion, measure the resistance between the clockspring signal circuit pin 3, component side and the clockspring signal return circuit pin 6, component side while pressing the OFF switch.
- For E-Series, measure the resistance between the clockspring signal circuit pin 4, component side and the clockspring signal return circuit pin 2, component side while pressing the OFF switch.
IS THE RESISTANCE LESS THAN 5 OHMS WITH THE SWITCH PRESSED?
Yes No Go to Y15. Go to Y14. - Y14 CHECK THE SPEED CONTROL SWITCH
- Disconnect the airbag. Refer to the appropriate AIRBAG RESTRAINT SYSTEM article.
- Disconnect the speed control switch.
- For F-SuperDuty/Excursion, measure the resistance between the speed control switch signal circuit, component side and the speed control switch signal return circuit, component side while pressing the OFF switch.
- For E-Series, measure the resistance between the speed control switch signal circuit, component side and the speed control switch signal return circuit, component side while pressing the OFF switch.
IS THE RESISTANCE LESS THAN 5 OHMS WITH SWITCH PRESSED?
Yes No INSTALL a new clockspring. Refer to the appropriate SPEED CONTROL article. INSTALL a new speed control switch. Refer to the appropriate SPEED CONTROL article. - Y15 CHECK THE SIGNAL RETURN CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
- Disconnect the PCM body harness connector.
- Measure the resistance between the clockspring speed control signal return circuit pin 6 (F-SuperDuty/Excursion) or pin 2 (E-Series), harness side and the PCM body harness connector pin 24, harness side.
IS THE RESISTANCE LESS THAN 5 OHMS?
Yes No INSTALL a new PCM. REPAIR the circuit.
