- AI1 DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE P1703 NOTE: DTC P1703 indicates that during the key on engine running (KOER) self-test, the BPP signal did not cycle.
- Possible causes:
- brake pedal not applied and released during KOER self-test
- BPP switch
- BPP switch signal circuit open
- BPP switch signal circuit short to voltage
- Key on, engine off.
- Access the BPP PID.
DOES THE BPP PID INDICATE ON?
Yes No Go to AI2. Go to AI4. - Possible causes:
- AI2 CHECK THE BPP SWITCH
- Key off.
- Disconnect the BPP switch.
- Key on, engine off.
- Access the BPP PID.
DOES THE BPP PID INDICATE ON?
Yes No Go to AI3. INSTALL a new BPP switch. - AI3 CHECK THE BPP SWITCH SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
- Key off.
- Disconnect the PCM.
- Key on, engine off.
- Measure the voltage between the BPP switch signal circuit pin 2, harness side and ground.
IS ANY VOLTAGE INDICATED?
Yes No REPAIR the circuit. INSTALL a new PCM. - AI4 CHECK THE BPP SWITCH OPERATION
- Monitor the BPA PID while applying and releasing the brake pedal.
DOES THE BPA PID STATE CHANGE WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL IS FULLY APPLIED AND RELEASED?
Yes No UNABLE to duplicate condition. CHECK for loose connections, damaged or corroded pins. REFER to SYMPTOM CHARTS - 6.0L DIESEL if a driveability concern exists. Go to AI5. - AI5 CHECK THE BPP SWITCH FOR VOLTAGE
- Key off.
- Disconnect the BPP switch.
- Measure the voltage between the BPP switch B+ circuit pin 3 (F-SuperDuty/Excursion) or pin 1 (E-Series), harness side and ground.
IS THE VOLTAGE GREATER THAN 10 VOLTS?
Yes No Go to AI6. REPAIR the circuit. - AI6 CHECK THE BPP SWITCH SIGNAL
- Key on, engine off.
- Access the BPP PID.
- Connect a 5A fused jumper between the BPP switch B+ circuit pin 3 (F-SuperDuty/Excursion) or pin 1 (E-Series), harness side and the BPP switch signal circuit pin 2, harness side.
DOES THE BPP PID INDICATE ON?
Yes No INSTALL a new BPP switch. Go to AI7. - AI7 CHECK THE BPP SWITCH INPUT CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
- Key off.
- Disconnect the PCM body harness connector.
- Measure the resistance between the BPP switch signal circuit pin 2, harness side and the PCM body harness connector pin 18, harness side.
IS THE RESISTANCE LESS THAN 5 OHMS?
Yes No INSTALL a new PCM. REPAIR the circuit.
