Pinpoint Test O: The Wipers Are Inoperative

  1. O1 CHECK CIRCUITS 950 (WH/BK) AND 1002 (BK/PK) FOR VOLTAGE 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Windshield Wiper Motor C1348.
    • Key in ON position.
    • Measure the voltage between windshield wiper C1348-5, circuit 950 (WH/BK), harness side and ground; and between windshield wiper motor C1348-8, circuit 1002 (BK/PK), harness side and ground.

    • Are the voltages greater than 10 volts? 

    Yes 

    GO to O2.

    No 

    REPAIR the circuit(s) in question. TEST the system for normal operation.

  2. O2 CHECK CIRCUITS 1205 (BK) AND 1203 (BK/LB) FOR OPENS 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Measure the resistance between windshield wiper C1348-6, circuit 1205 (BK), harness side and ground; and between windshield wiper motor C1348-3, circuit 1203 (BK/LB), harness side and ground.

    • Are the resistances less than 5 ohms? 

    Yes 

    GO to O3.

    No 

    REPAIR the circuit(s) in question. TEST the system for normal operation.

  3. O3 CHECK THE MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH 
    • Disconnect: Multifunction Switch C202a.
    • Carry out the multifunction switch component test.

      Refer to COMPONENT TESTING for schematic and connector information.

    • Did the multifunction switch pass the component test? 

    Yes 

    GO to O4.

    No 

    INSTALL a new multifunction switch. REFER to STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES .

  4. O4 CHECK CIRCUIT 1302 (WH/LG) FOR OPEN 
    • Measure the resistance between C202a-4, circuit 1302 (WH/LG), harness side and ground.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 

    Yes 

    GO to O5.

    No 

    REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.

  5. O5 CHECK CIRCUITS 682 (DB), 680 (LB/OG), 684 (PK/YE), AND 671 (LB) FOR OPENS 
    • Using the following table, measure the resistance between the multifunction switch C202a harness side and the windshield wiper motor C1348 harness side:
      MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH

      Multifunction Switch C202a Windshield Wiper Motor C1348
      C202a-7, circuit 682 (DB) C1348-10, circuit 682 (DB)
      C202a-3, circuit 680 (LB/OG) C1348-11, circuit 680 (LB/OG)
      C202a-5, circuit 684 (PK/YE) C1348-1, circuit 684 (PK/YE)
      C202a-1, circuit 671 (LB) C1348-9, circuit 671 (LB)

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 

    Yes 

    GO to O6.

    No 

    REPAIR the circuit(s) in question. TEST the system for normal operation.

  6. O6 CHECK FOR CORRECT WIPER MOTOR OPERATION 
    • Disconnect all wiper motor connectors.
    • Check for:
      • corrosion
      • pushed-out pins
    • Connect all wiper motor connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
    • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
    • Is the concern still present? 

    Yes 

    GO to O7.

    No 

    The system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. TEST the system for normal operation.

  7. O7 CHECK THE WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Windshield Wiper Motor C1348.
    • Carry out the WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR  component test as outlined.
    • Did the windshield wiper motor pass the component test? 

    Yes 

    The system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by binding or incorrect pivot arm adjustment. TEST the system for normal operation.

    No 

    INSTALL a new windshield wiper motor. REFER to WINDSHIELD WIPER .
