WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Mercury Monterey and 2004 Ford Freestar. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- AS1 DETERMINE IF THE FRONT AND REAR WIPERS STAY ON
- Turn the front and rear wiper motor switches to the OFF position.
- Are the front and rear wipers still operating?
Yes
INSTALL a new multifunction switch. Refer to STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES . TEST the system for normal operation.
No
GO to AS2.
- AS2 CHECK THE MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH
- Disconnect: Multifunction Switch C202b.
- Check the multifunction switch for correct operation.
Refer to COMPONENT TESTING for schematic and connector information.
- Did the multifunction switch pass the component test?
Yes
For windshield wiper concerns, GO to AS3.
For rear wiper concerns, GO to AS4.
No
INSTALL a new multifunction switch. REFER to STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES . TEST the system for normal operation.
- AS3 CHECK CIRCUITS 28 (BK/PK), 63 (RD) and 61 (YE/RD) FOR SHORT TO GROUND
- Disconnect: Windshield Wiper Motor C125.
- Measure the resistance between the multifunction switch C202b-1 circuit 61 (YE/RD), harness side and ground; then between the multifunction switch C202b-5 circuit 28 (BK/PK), harness side and ground; then between the multifunction switch C202b-6 circuit 63 (RD), harness side and ground.
- Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms on all circuits?
Yes
INSTALL a new windshield wiper motor. REFER to WINDSHIELD WIPER . TEST the system for normal operation.
No
REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
- AS4 CHECK CIRCUIT 485 (PK/BK) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Disconnect: Rear Wiper Motor C476.
- Measure the resistance between the multifunction switch C202b-4 circuit 485 (PK/BK), harness side and ground.
- Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?
