Pinpoint Test As: The Wipers Stay On Continuously - Front Or Rear

  1. AS1 DETERMINE IF THE FRONT AND REAR WIPERS STAY ON 
    • Turn the front and rear wiper motor switches to the OFF position.
    • Are the front and rear wipers still operating? 

    Yes 

    INSTALL a new multifunction switch. Refer to STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES . TEST the system for normal operation.

    No 

    GO to AS2.

  2. AS2 CHECK THE MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH 
    • Disconnect: Multifunction Switch C202b.
    • Check the multifunction switch for correct operation.

      Refer to COMPONENT TESTING for schematic and connector information.

    • Did the multifunction switch pass the component test? 

    Yes 

    For windshield wiper concerns, GO to AS3.

    For rear wiper concerns, GO to  AS4.

    No 

    INSTALL a new multifunction switch. REFER to STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES . TEST the system for normal operation.

  3. AS3 CHECK CIRCUITS 28 (BK/PK), 63 (RD) and 61 (YE/RD) FOR SHORT TO GROUND 
    • Disconnect: Windshield Wiper Motor C125.
    • Measure the resistance between the multifunction switch C202b-1 circuit 61 (YE/RD), harness side and ground; then between the multifunction switch C202b-5 circuit 28 (BK/PK), harness side and ground; then between the multifunction switch C202b-6 circuit 63 (RD), harness side and ground.

    • Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms on all circuits? 

    Yes 

    INSTALL a new windshield wiper motor. REFER to WINDSHIELD WIPER . TEST the system for normal operation.

    No 

    REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.

  4. AS4 CHECK CIRCUIT 485 (PK/BK) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND 
    • Disconnect: Rear Wiper Motor C476.
    • Measure the resistance between the multifunction switch C202b-4 circuit 485 (PK/BK), harness side and ground.

    • Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms? 

    Yes 

    INSTALL a new rear wiper motor. Refer to REAR WINDOW WIPER . TEST the system for normal operation.

    No 

    REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
