WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Mercury Monterey and 2004 Ford Freestar. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. AV1 CHECK FOR VOLTAGE AT THE INOPERATIVE WASHER MOTOR
    • Disconnect: Washer Motor C137 (Windshield) or C1097 (Rear).
    • Key in ON position.
    • While holding the washer switch in the ON position, measure the voltage between the windshield washer motor C137-1 circuit 941 (BK/WH), harness side and ground; or measure the voltage between the rear washer motor C1097-1 circuit 946 (VT/LG), harness side and ground.

    • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?

    Yes

    GO to  AV6.

    No

    GO to AV2

  2. AV2 CHECK THE MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Multifunction Switch C202b.
    • Check the multifunction switch for correct operation.

Refer to COMPONENT TESTING for schematic and connector information.

    • Did the multifunction switch pass the component test?

    Yes

If the front washer is inoperative, GO to AV3.

If the rear washer is inoperative, GO to  AV5.

    No

INSTALL a new multifunction switch. Refer to STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES . TEST the system for normal operation.

  3. AV3 CHECK CIRCUIT 941 (BK/WH) FOR AN OPEN OR SHORT TO GROUND
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Windshield Wiper Motor C125.
    • Measure the resistance between the windshield wiper motor C125-7 circuit 941 (BK/WH), harness side and the windshield washer motor C137-1 circuit 941 (BK/WH), harness side; then between the windshield wiper motor C125-7 circuit 941 (BK/WH), harness side and ground.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms between the wiper motor and washer motor; and greater than 10,000 ohms between the wiper motor and ground?

    Yes

    GO to AV4.

    No

REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.

  4. AV4 CHECK CIRCUIT 950 (WH/BK) FOR AN OPEN OR SHORT TO GROUND
    • Measure the resistance between the multifunction switch C202b-7 circuit 950 (WH/BK), harness side and the windshield wiper motor C125-12 circuit 950 (WH/BK), harness side; then between the multifunction switch C202b-7 circuit 950 (WH/BK), harness side and ground.
