Pinpoint Test Av: The Washer Pump Is Inoperative - Front Or Rear
- AV1 CHECK FOR VOLTAGE AT THE INOPERATIVE WASHER MOTOR
- Disconnect: Washer Motor C137 (Windshield) or C1097 (Rear).
- Key in ON position.
- While holding the washer switch in the ON position, measure the voltage between the windshield washer motor C137-1 circuit 941 (BK/WH), harness side and ground; or measure the voltage between the rear washer motor C1097-1 circuit 946 (VT/LG), harness side and ground.
- Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
Yes
GO to AV6.
No
GO to AV2
- AV2 CHECK THE MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: Multifunction Switch C202b.
- Check the multifunction switch for correct operation.
Refer to COMPONENT TESTING for schematic and connector information.
- Did the multifunction switch pass the component test?
Yes
If the front washer is inoperative, GO to AV3.
If the rear washer is inoperative, GO to AV5.
No
INSTALL a new multifunction switch. Refer to STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES . TEST the system for normal operation.
- AV3 CHECK CIRCUIT 941 (BK/WH) FOR AN OPEN OR SHORT TO GROUND
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: Windshield Wiper Motor C125.
- Measure the resistance between the windshield wiper motor C125-7 circuit 941 (BK/WH), harness side and the windshield washer motor C137-1 circuit 941 (BK/WH), harness side; then between the windshield wiper motor C125-7 circuit 941 (BK/WH), harness side and ground.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms between the wiper motor and washer motor; and greater than 10,000 ohms between the wiper motor and ground?
Yes
GO to AV4.
No
REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
- AV4 CHECK CIRCUIT 950 (WH/BK) FOR AN OPEN OR SHORT TO GROUND
- Measure the resistance between the multifunction switch C202b-7 circuit 950 (WH/BK), harness side and the windshield wiper motor C125-12 circuit 950 (WH/BK), harness side; then between the multifunction switch C202b-7 circuit 950 (WH/BK), harness side and ground.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms between the multifunction switch and wiper motor; and greater than 10,000 ohms between the multifunction switch and ground?
Yes
INSTALL a new windshield wiper motor. Refer to WINDSHIELD WIPER . TEST the system for normal operation.
No
REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
- AV5 CHECK CIRCUIT 946 (VT/LG) FOR AN OPEN OR SHORT TO GROUND
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: Rear Wiper Motor C476.
- Measure the resistance between the rear wiper motor C476-7 circuit 946 (VT/LG), harness side and the rear washer motor C1097-1 circuit 946 (VT/LG), harness side; then between the rear wiper motor C476-7 circuit 946 (VT/LG), harness side and ground.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms between the wiper motor and washer motor; and greater than 10,000 ohms between the wiper motor and ground?
Yes
INSTALL a new rear wiper motor. Refer to REAR WINDOW WIPER . TEST the system for normal operation.
No
REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
- AV6 CHECK THE GROUND CIRCUIT FOR THE INOPERATIVE WASHER MOTOR
- Measure the resistance between the windshield washer motor C137-2 circuit 1205 (BK) harness side and ground; or between the rear washer motor C1097-2 circuit 1205 (BK), harness side and ground.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes
INSTALL a new washer pump. Refer to WINDSHIELD WASHER PUMP AND RESERVOIR .
