Pinpoint Test L: The Hazard Lamps Are Inoperative

  1. L1 CHECK THE TURN SIGNAL LAMP OPERATION 
    • Key in ON position.
    • Place the multifunction switch in the RH and LH turn positions.
    • Do the turn signals operate correctly? 
    1. Yes  : GO to L2.
    2. No  : Go To PINPOINT TEST I: THE TURN SIGNAL LAMPS ARE INOPERATIVE .
  2. L2 CHECK THE HAZARD LAMPS 
    • Turn on the hazard lamps.
    • Are the lamps illuminated but not flashing? 
    1. Yes  : GO to  L9.
    2. No  : GO to L3.
  3. L3 CHECK CIRCUIT 385 (WH/RD) FOR SHORT TO GROUND 
    • Listen to the indicator flasher.
    • Is there a rapid clicking sound coming continuously from the indicator flasher? 
    1. Yes  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. No  : GO to L4.
  4. L4 CHECK THE VOLTAGE TO THE INDICATOR FLASHER 
    • Disconnect: Indicator Flasher C2047.
    • Measure the voltage between the indicator flasher C2047 pin 85, circuit 383 (RD/WH), harness side and ground.

    • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? 
    1. Yes  : GO to L5.
    2. No  : GO to  L6.
  5. L5 CHECK CIRCUIT 385 (WH/RD) FOR AN OPEN 
    • Disconnect: Multifunction Switch C202b.
    • Measure the resistance between the multifunction switch C202b pin 3, circuit 385 (WH/RD), harness side and the indicator flasher C2047 pin 87A, circuit 385 (WH/RD), harness side.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 
    1. Yes  : GO to L7.
    2. No  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
  6. L6 CHECK CIRCUIT 383 (RD/WH) FOR AN OPEN 
    • Disconnect: SJB C2280b.
    • Key in ON position.
    • Measure the resistance between the indicator flasher C2047 pin 85, circuit 383 (RD/WH), harness side and the SJB C2280b pin 21, circuit 383 (RD/WH), harness side.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 
    1. Yes  : GO to  L8.
    2. No  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
  7. L7 CHECK THE MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH 
    • Carry out the multifunction switch component test for the turn lamps.

      Refer to the appropriate SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS for schematic and connector information.

    • Is the multifunction switch OK? 
    1. Yes  : INSTALL a new indicator flasher. TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. No  : INSTALL a new multifunction switch. REFER to STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES . TEST the system for normal operation.
  8. L8 CHECK FOR CORRECT SJB OPERATION 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect all SJB connectors.
    • Check for:
      • Corrosion
      • Pushed-out pins
    • Connect all SJB connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
    • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
    • Is the concern still present? 
    1. Yes  : INSTALL a new SJB. REFER to MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULES . TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. No  : The system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
  9. L9 CHECK THE MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH FOR A SHORT TO POWER 
    • Carry out the multifunction switch component.

      Refer to the appropriate SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS for schematic and connector information.

    • Is the multifunction switch OK? 
    1. Yes  : GO to L10.
    2. No  : INSTALL a new multifunction switch. REFER to STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES . TEST the system for normal operation.
  10. L10 CHECK THE CIRCUIT 385 (WH/RD) FOR A SHORT TO POWER 
    • Disconnect: Indicator Flasher C2047.
    • Measure the voltage between the indicator flasher C2047 pin 30, circuit 385 (WH/RD), harness side and ground

    • Is any voltage present? 
    1. Yes  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. No  : INSTALL a new indicator flasher. TEST the system for normal operation.
