Pinpoint Test I: The Turn Signal Lamps Are Inoperative

- I1 CHECK THE TURN SIGNALS
- Key in ON position.
- Place the multifunction switch in the LH or RH turn position.
- Are the turn signal lamps illuminated but not flashing?
- Yes : GO to I9.
- No : GO to I2.
- I2 CHECK THE STOPLAMPS
- Observe the rear lamps while pressing and releasing the brake pedal.
- Do the stoplamps operate correctly?
- Yes : GO to I3.
- No : REFER to STOPLAMPS .
- I3 CHECK CIRCUIT 44 (LB) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Listen to the indicator flasher while placing the multifunction switch in the LH and RH turn positions.
- Is there a rapid clicking sound coming continuously from the indicator flasher?
- Yes : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
- No : GO to I4.
- I4 CHECK THE VOLTAGE TO THE INDICATOR FLASHER
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: Indicator Flasher C2047.
- Key in ON position.
- Measure the voltage between the indicator flasher C2047 pin 30, circuit 8 (OG/YE), harness side and ground.
- Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
- Yes : GO to I6.
- No : GO to I5.
- I5 CHECK CIRCUIT 8 (OG/YE) FOR AN OPEN
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: SJB C2280b.
- Measure the resistance between the indicator flasher C2047 pin 30, circuit 8 (OG/YE), harness side and the SJB C2280b pin 19, circuit 8 (OG/YE), harness side.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
- Yes : GO to I8.
- No : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
- I6 CHECK CIRCUIT 44 (LB) FOR AN OPEN
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: Multifunction Switch C202a.
- Measure the resistance between the multifunction switch C202b pin 2, circuit 44 (LB), harness side and the indicator flasher C2047 pin 87, circuit 44 (LB), harness side.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
- Yes : GO to I7.
- No : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
- I7 CHECK THE MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH
- Carry out the multifunction switch component test.
Refer to the appropriate SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS for schematic and connector information.
- Is the multifunction switch OK?
- Yes : GO to I11.
- No : INSTALL a new multifunction switch. REFER to STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES . TEST the system for normal operation.
- Carry out the multifunction switch component test.
- I8 CHECK FOR CORRECT SMART JUNCTION BOX (SJB) OPERATION
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect all SJB connectors.
- Check for:
- Corrosion
- Pushed-out pins
- Connect all SJB connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?
- Yes : INSTALL a new SJB. REFER to MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULES . TEST the system for normal operation.
- No : The system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
- I9 CHECK THE MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH FOR A SHORT TO POWER
- Carry out the multifunction switch component test.
Refer to the appropriate SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS for schematic and connector information.
- Is the multifunction switch OK?
- Yes : GO to I10.
- No : INSTALL a new multifunction switch. REFER to STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES . TEST the system for normal operation.
- Carry out the multifunction switch component test.
- I10 CHECK CIRCUIT 44 (LB) FOR A SHORT TO POWER
- Disconnect: Indicator Flasher C2047.
- Measure the voltage between the indicator flasher C2047 pin 87, circuit 44 (LB), harness side and ground.
- Is any voltage present?
- Yes : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
- No
: INSTALL a new indicator flasher.
TEST the system for normal operation.
- I11 CHECK CIRCUIT 57 (BK) FOR AN OPEN
- Measure the resistance between the indicator flasher C2047 pin 86, circuit 57 (BK), harness side and ground.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
- Yes : INSTALL a new indicator flasher. TEST the system for normal operation.
- No : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
