Pinpoint Test V: The Washer Pump Is Inoperative
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Lincoln LS. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- V1 CHECK THE WASHER PUMP MOTOR FOR VOLTAGE
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: Washer Pump Motor C137.
- Key in ON position.
- Measure the voltage between the washer pump motor C137-2, circuit 75S-KA7 (YE/VT) harness side and ground while pressing the multifunction switch to the wash position.
- Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
- Yes : GO to V2.
- No : GO to V3.
- V2 CHECK CIRCUIT 31-KA7 (BK) FOR GROUND
- Measure the resistance between the washer pump motor C137-1, circuit 31-KA7 (BK) harness side and ground.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
- Yes : INSTALL a new washer pump. REFER to WINDSHIELD WASHER PUMP AND RESERVOIR .
- No : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
- V3 CHECK CIRCUIT 75S-KA7 (YE/VT) FOR AN OPEN
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: Windshield Wiper Motor C125.
- Measure the resistance between C125-7, circuit 75S-KA7 (YE/VT), harness side and C137-2, circuit 75S-KA7 (YE/VT), harness side.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
- Yes : go to V4.
- No : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
- V4 CHECK THE MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: Multifunction Switch C202.
- Carry out the multifunction switch component test.
Refer to COMPONENT TESTING .
- Did the multifunction switch pass the component test?
- Yes : GO to V5.
- No : INSTALL a new multifunction switch. REFER to STEERING SYSTEM for the removal and installation procedure.
- V5 CHECK CIRCUIT 31-KA19 (BK/RD) FOR AN OPEN
- Measure the resistance between the multifunction switch C202-2, circuit 31-KA19 (BK/RD), harness side and ground.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
- Yes : GO to V6.
- No : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
- V6 CHECK CIRCUIT 8-KA7 (WH/VT) FOR AN OPEN
- Measure the resistance between the multifunction switch C202-5, circuit 8-KA7 (WH/VT), harness side and the windshield wiper motor C125-12, circuit 8-KA7 (WH/VT), harness side.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
- Yes : GO to V7.
- No : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
- V7 CHECK FOR CORRECT WIPER MOTOR OPERATION
- Disconnect all wiper motor connectors.
- Check for:
- corrosion
- pushed-out pins
- Connect all wiper motor connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?
- Yes : go to V8.
- No : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. TEST the system for normal operation.
- V8 CHECK THE WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: Windshield Wiper Motor C125.
- Carry out the windshield wiper motor component test as described.
- Did the windshield wiper motor pass the component test?
- Yes : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by binding or incorrect pivot arm adjustment. REFER to WINDSHIELD WIPER . TEST the system for normal operation.
- No : INSTALL a new windshield wiper motor. REFER to WINDSHIELD WIPER .
