Pinpoint Test Ad: The Integrated Circuit Display Is Inoperative

CAUTION: Use the correct probe adaptor(s) when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adaptor(s) may damage the connector.
  1. AD1 VERIFY THE INTEGRATED CIRCUIT DISPLAY OPERATION 
    • Connect the diagnostic tool.
    • Key in ON position.
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: Instrument Cluster Active Command.
    • Select the instrument cluster DISPLAY SEGMENT CONTROL II active command.
    • Trigger the SEGMENTS active command.
    • Do all of the segments illuminate? 
    1. Yes  : If the PRNDL is inoperative, REFER to AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION - 5R55S .

      If the odometer is inoperative, Go To PINPOINT TEST K: THE ODOMETER IS INOPERATIVE .

      If the warning center display is inoperative, GO to AD2.

    2. No  : GO to  AD4.
  2. AD2 MONITOR THE EXTERIOR LIGHTING 
    • Key in ON position.
    • Place the headlamp switch in the parking lamps ON position.
    • Monitor the exterior lighting.
    • Do all exterior operate correctly? 
    1. Yes  : GO to AD3.
    2. No  : REPAIR the exterior lights. REFER to EXTERIOR LIGHTING .
  3. AD3 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCS FROM BOTH CONTINUOUS AND ON-DEMAND SELF-TESTS - FRONT ELECTRONIC MODULE (FEM) AND REAR ELECTRONIC MODULE (REM) 
    • Use the recorded rear electronic module (REM) and front electronic module (FEM) DTCs from the continuous and on-demand self-test.
    • Are any FEM or REM DTCs recorded? 
    1. Yes  : REPAIR the FEM DTCs. REFER to MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK .
    2. No  : GO to AD4.
  4. AD4 CHECK FOR CORRECT INSTRUMENT CLUSTER OPERATION 
    • Disconnect all the instrument cluster connectors.
    • Check for:
      • corrosion
      • pushed-out pins
    • Connect all the instrument cluster connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
    • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
    • Is the concern still present? 
    1. Yes  : INSTALL a new instrument cluster. REFER to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER . TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. No  : The system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
