Pinpoint Test C: The Control Illumination Is Always On

  1. C1 CHECK THE OPERATION OF THE FEM 
    • Disconnect: Front Electronic Module (FEM) C201f.
    • Does the illumination go out? 
      1. Yes  : GO to  C12.
      2. No  : GO to C2.
  2. C2 CHECK CIRCUIT 64S -LH5 (BU/RD) FOR SHORT TO POWER 
    • Disconnect: Interior Auxiliary Junction Box C283a.
    • Measure the voltage between the interior auxiliary junction box C283a-9, circuit 64S-LH5 (BU/RD), harness side and ground.

    • Is any voltage indicated? 
      1. Yes  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
      2. No  : GO to C3.
  3. C3 CHECK THE INTERIOR AUXILIARY JUNCTION BOX FOR SHORT TO POWER 
    • Disconnect: Interior Auxiliary Junction Box C283b.
    • Disconnect: Interior Auxiliary Junction Box C283d.
    • Measure the voltage between the interior auxiliary junction box C283a-9, circuit 64S-LH5 (BU/RD), component side and ground.

    • Is any voltage indicated? 
      1. Yes  : REPAIR or INSTALL a new interior auxiliary junction box. TEST the system for normal operation.
      2. No  : If the instrument cluster and instrument panel switches remain illuminated, GO to C4.

        If the door and window switches remain illuminated, GO to  C7.

  4. C4 CHECK THE SUPPLY CIRCUIT 64S-LH4 (BU/RD) FOR SHORT TO POWER 
    • Measure the voltage between the interior auxiliary junction box C283b-9, circuit 64S-LH4 (BU/RD), harness side and ground.

    • Is any voltage indicated? 
      1. Yes  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
      2. No  : GO to C5.
  5. C5 CHECK ILLUMINATION SUPPLY CIRCUIT FOR SHORT TO POWER 
    • Measure the voltage between the interior auxiliary junction box C283a-13, circuit 64S-LH4 (BU/RD), component side and ground.

    • Is any voltage indicated? 
      1. Yes  : REPAIR or INSTALL a new interior auxiliary junction box. TEST the system for normal operation.
      2. No  : GO to C6.
  6. C6 CHECK THE SUPPLY CIRCUITS FOR SHORT TO POWER 
    • Disconnect: Joint Connector 3 C224.
    • Measure the voltage between the joint connector 3 C224, harness side and ground as follows:
      CONNECTOR CIRCUIT REFERENCE

      Joint Connector 3 Circuit Component
      C224-16 64-LK18 (BU/RD) Steering wheel switch
      C224-12 64S-LE10 (BU/YE) Instrument panel dimmer switch
      C224-20 64S-LH26 (BU/BK) Headlamp switch
      C224-21 64S-GG25 (BU/OG) Message center switch
      C224-15 64SLK29 (BU/RD) Instrument cluster
      C224-17 64S-LK34 (BU/BK) Navigation audio unit
      C224-14 64S-AL19 (BU/BK) Adjustable pedal switch
      C224-13 64S-LK1 (BU/RD) Illumination supply
    • Is any voltage indicated? 
      1. Yes  : REPAIR the circuit(s) in question for short to power. TEST the system for normal operation.
      2. No  : REPAIR or INSTALL a new joint connector 3.
  7. C7 CHECK CIRCUIT 64S-LH16 (BU/WH) FOR SHORT TO POWER 
    • Measure the voltage between the interior auxiliary junction box C283b-10, circuit 64S-LH16 (BU/WH), harness side and ground.

    • Is any voltage indicated? 
      1. Yes  : REPAIR the following circuit(s): 64S-LH16 (BU/WH), 64S-LH16A (BU/WH) or 64S-LH15 (BU) for short to power. TEST the system for normal operation.
      2. No  : GO to C8.
  8. C8 CHECK CIRCUIT 64S -LH1 (BU/RD) FOR SHORT TO POWER 
    • Measure the voltage between the interior auxiliary junction box C283b-1, circuit 64S-LH1 (BU/RD), harness side and ground.

    • Is any voltage indicated? 
      1. Yes  : REPAIR the following circuit(s): 64S-LH1 (BU/RD), 64S-LH14 (BU), 64S-AH27 (BU), 64S-LH28 (BU), or 64S-LH50 (BU/YE) for short to power. TEST the system for normal operation.
      2. No  : GO to C9.
  9. C9 CHECK CIRCUIT 64S-AD2 (BU/RD) FOR SHORT TO POWER 
    • Disconnect: Central Junction Box (CJB) C270d.
    • Measure the voltage between the interior auxiliary junction box C283b-11, circuit 64S-AD2 (BU/RD), harness side and ground.

    • Is any voltage indicated? 
      1. Yes  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
      2. No  : GO to C10.
  10. C10 CHECK CIRCUIT 64S-LH2 (BU/RD) FOR SHORT TO POWER 
    • Measure the voltage between the CJB C270d-25, circuit 64S-LH2 (BU/RD), harness side and ground.

    • Is any voltage indicated? 
      1. Yes  : REPAIR the following circuit(s): 64S-LH2 (BU/RD), 64S-LH31 (BU/RD), or 64S-LH42 (BU/RD) for short to power. TEST the system for normal operation.
      2. No  : GO to C11.
  11. C11 CHECK CIRCUIT 64S-LH33 (BU/BK) FOR SHORT TO POWER 
    • Measure the voltage between the CJB C270d-26, circuit 64S-LH33 (BU/BK), harness side and ground.

    • Is any voltage indicated? 
      1. Yes  : REPAIR the following circuit(s): 64S-LH33 (BU/BK), 64S-LH33A (BU/BK), or 64S-LH32 (BU/RD) for short to power. TEST the system for normal operation.
      2. No  : REPAIR or INSTALL a new CJB. TEST the system for normal operation.
  12. C12 CHECK FOR CORRECT FEM OPERATION 
    • Disconnect all the FEM connectors.
    • Check for:
      • corrosion
      • pushed-out pins
    • Connect all the FEM connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
    • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
    • Is the concern still present? 
      1. Yes  : INSTALL a new FEM. REFER to MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK . TEST the system for normal operation.
      2. No  : The system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
