Test Procedures

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Lincoln LS. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
CAUTION: Use the Flex Probe Kit for all test connections to prevent damage to the wiring terminals. Do not use standard multimeter probes.

  1. I1 - CHECK RBJB FUSE 22 (20A)

    • CHECK the RBJB fuse 22 (20A).
    • Is the fuse OK? 
      1. Yes  : GO to I2.
      2. No  : INSTALL a new fuse. TEST the system for normal operation.
  2. I2 - CHECK IGNITION SWITCH

    • Carry out the Ignition Switch Component Test.

      Refer to SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS for schematic and connector information.

    • Is the ignition switch OK? 
      1. Yes  : GO to I3.
      2. No  : INSTALL a new ignition switch. REFER to STEERING SYSTEM. TEST the system for normal operation.
  3. I3 - CHECK CIRCUITS 30-BB20 (RD) AND 30-BB9 (RD)

    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Ignition Switch C250.
    • Measure the voltage between ignition switch C250-7, circuit 30-BB20 (RD), harness side, and ground; and between ignition switch C250-1, circuit 30-BB9 (RD), harness side, and ground.

    • Are the voltages greater than 10 volts? 
      1. Yes  : CHECK the instrument cluster module (ICM) for faults. REFER to INFORMATION, GAUGES & WARNING DEVICES .
      2. No  : REPAIR the affected circuit(s). TEST the system for normal operation.
