P1260 - Theft Detected, Vehicle Immobilized

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2010 Mercury Mariner and 2010 Ford Escape. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
P1260 - THEFT DETECTED, VEHICLE IMMOBILIZED

Description:  The transaxle control module (TCM) monitors the controller area network (CAN) bus for a Key Status - Enable message from the instrument cluster during the power up sequence. If this message is not received within a set amount of time, this DTC sets and the transaxle is disabled.
Possible Causes:
  • Previous theft condition
  • Passive anti-theft system (PATS) system
  • Damaged TCM
Diagnostic Aids:  Make sure the remote transmitter is correctly programmed. Diagnose all PATS DTCs first. For PATS DTCs refer to the ANTI-THEFT - PASSIVE ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM (PATS) -- HYBRID . If no other DTCs are present, the system is operating correctly at this time. Clear the DTCs. Repeat the self-test.
