Inspection and Verification

NOTE: Verify the service disconnect plug is correctly inserted and locked into the LOCK position.
  1. Verify the customer concern.
  2. Visually inspect for obvious signs of mechanical or electrical damage.
    VISUAL INSPECTION CHART

    Mechanical Electrical
    • A/C compressor
    • A/C compressor drive belt
    • A/C compressor clutch air gap
    • A/C clutch
    • Auxiliary air inlet mode door
    • Auxiliary air inlet mode door actuator
    • Auxiliary air inlet mode door linkage
    • Battery junction box (BJB) fuse(s):
      • 13 (10A)
      • 29 (15A)
    • Smart junction box (SJB) fuse:
      • 23 (5A)
    • Passenger zone valve
    • Battery zone valve
    • Circuitry
  3. If an obvious cause for an observed or reported concern is found, correct the cause (if possible) before proceeding to the next step.
  4. NOTE: Make sure to use the latest scan tool software release.
  5. If the cause is not visually evident, connect the scan tool to the data link connector (DLC).
  6. NOTE: The vehicle communication module (VCM) LED prove-out confirms power and ground from the DLC are provided to the VCM.
  7. If the scan tool does not communication with the VCM:
    • check the VCM connection to the vehicle.
    • check the scan tool connection to the VCM.
    • refer to MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK article, No Power To The Scan Tool, to diagnose no communication with the scan tool.
  8. If the scan tool does not communicate with the vehicle:
    • verify the ignition key is in the ON position.
    • verify the scan tool operation with a known good vehicle.
    • refer to MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK article to diagnose no response from the electronic automatic temperature control (EATC) module, PCM or traction battery control module (TBCM).
  9. Carry out the network test.
    • If the scan tool responds with no communication from one or more modules, refer to MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK article.
    • If the network test passes, retrieve and record the continuous memory DTCs.
  10. Clear the continuous DTCs and carry out the self-test diagnostics for the EATC, PCM or TBCM.
  11. NOTE: Some PCM DTCs may inhibit A/C operation. If any PCM DTCs are retrieved, diagnose those first. Refer to the Introduction - Gasoline Engines article.
  12. If the EATC DTCs retrieved are related to the concern, go to the Electronic Automatic Temperature Control (EATC) Module DTC Chart. If the TBCM DTCs retrieved are related to the concern, go to the Traction Battery Control Module (TBCM) DTC Chart. If the PCM DTCs retrieved are related to the concern, go to the Introduction - Gasoline Engines article. For all other DTCs, refer to MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES article.
  13. If no DTCs related to the concern are retrieved, go to Symtpom Chart .
