Removal (E550)

- Disconnect negative battery cable. On vehicles with dual batteries, see DUAL BATTERIES under MISCELLANEOUS. Release fuel pressure. See FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELEASE . Drain fuel from fuel tank. See FUEL TANK DRAINING PROCEDURE .
- Raise and support the vehicle. Disconnect the following:
- Fuel tank filler pipe and filler vent tube.
- Evaporative Emission (EVAP) valve hose(s).
- Fuel tank pressure sensor electrical connector.
- Fuel pump and fuel tank sending unit electrical connector.
- Fuel lines. See FUEL LINE CONNECTORS .
- Position jack under fuel tank. Remove 12 fuel tank support straps bolts. Remove fuel tank support straps. Lower fuel tank and remove fuel tank strap nuts and the fuel tank straps from fuel tank. If a new fuel tank is being installed, transfer components as needed.
