Fuel System Pressure Release

WARNING: Do not smoke or carry lighted tobacco or open flame of any type when working on or near any fuel-related component. Highly flammable mixtures are always present and may be ignited, resulting in possible personal injury.

Fuel in the fuel system remains under high pressure even when the engine is not running. Before repairing or disconnecting any of the fuel lines or fuel system components, the fuel system pressure must be relieved to prevent accidental spraying of fuel, causing personal injury or a fire hazard.

NOTE: Fuel Pressure Gauge (T80L-9974-B) is required to perform this procedure. See Figure.

Remove engine cover. See ENGINE COVER under MISCELLANEOUS. Remove Schrader valve cap located on fuel injection manifold rail and attach Fuel Pressure Gauge. Slowly open the manual valve on the Fuel Pressure Gauge and relieve the fuel pressure. This will drain some fuel out of the system. Place fuel in a suitable container.
If fuel pressure gauge is not available, disconnect Inertia Fuel Shutoff (IFS) switch behind right kick panel. Remove fuel filler cap to release fuel tank pressure. Crank engine for 15 seconds to release system pressure.
