Removal & Installation ("R" Clip Fitting)

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Ford Econoline. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: New "R" clips must be used when reconnecting "R" clip fittings. May also be referred to as hairpin clip fittings.
  1. Release fuel pressure. See FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELEASE . Spread "R" clip legs and push clip into fitting. Separate fitting from tube and discard the old R-clip. See Fig 1. Clean and inspect fitting and tube for damage.
  2. Apply a light coat of engine oil to male tube end and insert "R" clip into fitting. Align the tube and fitting. Insert the tube in the fitting and push together until a click is heard. Pull on the connection to make sure it is fully engaged.
