Preliminary Inspection

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Ford Econoline. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Verify customer's complaint by observing indicators and gauges to determine correct operation with ignition switch in ON position and engine off. Check for stuck gauge needle. Check for damaged fuel tank, fuel lines and solenoids.

Check for damaged wiring harness, loose or corroded connections or damaged switches and sensors. Check Battery Junction Box (BJB) fuse No. 4 (10-amp). See Fig 1. BJB is located in left side of engine compartment. Check Central Junction Box (CJB) fuses No. 2 (15-amp) and No. 14 (5-amp). See Fig 2. CJB is located under left side of instrument panel, near left kick panel.

Repair or replace as necessary. If no problems are found, check for Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC). See SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM . If no DTCs are retrieved, repair by symptom. See SYMPTOM INDEX  table under SYSTEM TESTS.
