Test B: Parking Aid System Inoperative

NOTE: After any repairs, perform data link diagnostic test. See DATA LINK DIAGNOSTIC TEST under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM in MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK - BLACKWOOD article.
  1. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Connect New Generation Star (NGS) tester to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located below instrument panel, right of steering column. Perform Parking Aid Module (PAM) self-test. If Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC) are not retrieved, go to step  24. If any DTCs are retrieved, go to appropriate step. See PARKING AID DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE TEST STEPS  table.

  2. Disconnect appropriate parking aid sensor harness connector. Parking aid sensors are located on rear bumper. Disconnect PAM harness connector C4014. PAM is located behind left "B" pillar trim panel. Measure resistance between ground and PAM harness connector C4014 terminal No. 16 (Dark Green/Yellow wire). See Figure. If resistance is more than 10 k/ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 10 k/ohms or less, repair short to ground in Dark Green/Yellow wire between PAM and appropriate rear sensor. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
  3. Measure resistance between ground and PAM harness connector C4014 terminal No. 15 (Brown/Pink wire). See Figure. If resistance is more than 10 k/ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 10 k/ohms or less, repair short to ground in Brown/Pink wire between PAM and appropriate rear sensor. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
  4. Measure resistance between ground and appropriate rear sensor terminal at PAM harness connector C4014. See PARKING AID MODULE TERMINAL IDENTIFICATION  table. If resistance is more than 10 k/ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 10 k/ohms or less, repair short to ground in appropriate wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
    PARKING AID MODULE TERMINAL IDENTIFICATION

  5. Measure resistance of Dark Green/Yellow wire between PAM harness connector C4014 terminal No. 16 and appropriate parking aid sensor input harness connector terminal No. 3. See Figure. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Dark Green/Yellow wire between PAM and appropriate parking aid sensor. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
  6. Measure resistance of Brown/Pink wire between PAM harness connector C4014 terminal No. 15 and appropriate parking aid sensor harness connector. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Brown/Pink wire between PAM and appropriate parking aid sensor. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
  7. Measure resistance between appropriate PAM harness connector C4014 terminal and appropriate parking aid sensor harness connector. See PARKING AID MODULE TERMINAL IDENTIFICATION  table. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in appropriate wire and test system operation. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, and all 4 parking aid sensors recorded DTCs, replace PAM. See PARKING AID MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, and less than 4 parking aid sensors recorded DTCs, replace appropriate parking aid sensor(s). See PARKING AID SENSOR  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  8. Disconnect appropriate parking aid sensor harness connector. Parking aid sensors are located on rear bumper. Disconnect PAM harness connector C4014. PAM is located behind left "B" pillar trim panel. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Measure voltage between ground and PAM harness connector C4014 terminal No. 16 (Dark Green/Yellow wire). See Figure. If battery voltage does not exist, go to next step. If battery voltage exists, repair short to voltage in Dark Green/Yellow wire between PAM and appropriate parking aid sensor. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
  9. Measure voltage between ground and PAM harness connector C4014 terminal No. 15 (Brown/Pink wire). If battery voltage does not exist, go to next step. If battery voltage exists, repair short to voltage in Brown/Pink wire between PAM and appropriate parking aid sensor. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
  10. Measure voltage between ground and appropriate PAM harness connector C4014 terminal. See PARKING AID MODULE TERMINAL IDENTIFICATION  table. If battery voltage exists, repair short to voltage in appropriate wire. If battery voltage does not exist, and all 4 parking aid sensors recorded DTCs, replace PAM. See PARKING AID MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If battery voltage does not exist, and less than 4 parking aid sensor DTCs are retrieved, replace appropriate parking aid sensor(s). See PARKING AID SENSOR  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  11. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect PAM harness connector C4014. PAM is located behind left "B" pillar trim panel. Measure resistance between terminals No. 14 (Black/Pink wire) and No. 17 (Dark Green wire) at PAM harness connector C4014. See Figure. If resistance is more than 60 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 60 ohms or less, go to step  14.
  12. Disconnect parking aid speaker harness 2-pin harness connector C4015. Parking aid speaker is located on back of PAM. Measure resistance of Black/Pink wire between PAM harness connector C4014 terminal No. 14 and parking aid speaker harness 2-pin harness connector C4015 terminal No. 1. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Black/Pink wire between PAM and parking aid speaker. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
  13. Measure resistance of Dark Green wire between PAM harness connector C4014 terminal No. 17 and parking aid speaker harness 2-pin harness connector C4015 terminal No. 2. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, replace parking aid speaker. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Dark Green wire between PAM and parking aid speaker. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
  14. Disconnect parking aid speaker harness 2-pin harness connector C4015. Parking aid speaker is located on back of PAM. Measure resistance between ground and PAM harness connector C4014 terminal No. 14 (Black/Pink wire). If resistance is more than 10 k/ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 10 k/ohms or less, repair short to ground in Black/Pink wire between PAM and parking aid speaker. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
  15. Measure resistance between ground and PAM harness connector C4014 terminal No. 17 (Dark Green wire). If resistance is more than 10 k/ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 10 k/ohms or less, repair short to ground in Dark Green wire between PAM and parking aid speaker. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
  16. Measure resistance between ground and parking aid speaker terminal No. 1 (component side) with speaker mounted to vehicle. If resistance is more than 10 k/ohms, replace PAM. See PARKING AID MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If resistance is 10 k/ohms or less, replace parking aid speaker. See PARKING AID SPEAKER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  17. Disconnect PAM harness connector C4014. PAM is located behind left "B" pillar trim panel. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Measure voltage between ground and PAM harness connector C4014 terminal No. 14 (Black/Pink wire). See Figure. If battery voltage exist, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, replace PAM. See PARKING AID MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  18. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect parking aid speaker harness 2-pin harness connector C4015. Parking aid speaker is located on PAM. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Measure voltage between ground and PAM harness connector C4014 terminal No. 14 (Black/Pink wire). If battery voltage exists, repair short to voltage in Black/Pink wire between PAM and parking aid speaker. If battery voltage does not exist, repair short to voltage in Dark Green wire between PAM and parking aid speaker. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
  19. Disconnect PAM harness connector C4014. PAM is located behind left "B" pillar trim panel. Measure resistance between ground and PAM harness connector C4014 terminal No. 19 (Violet/Orange wire). See Figure. If resistance is more than 10 k/ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 10 k/ohms or less, repair short to ground in Violet/Orange wire between PAM and parking aid disable switch. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
  20. Disconnect parking aid disable switch harness connector C365. Parking aid disable switch is located in center of front floor console finish panel. Measure resistance of Violet/Orange wire between PAM harness connector C4014 terminal No. 19 and parking aid disable switch harness connector C365 terminal No. 6. See Fig 1. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, repair open in Violet/Orange wire between PAM and parking aid disable switch.

  21. Measure resistance between ground and parking aid disable switch harness connector C365 terminal No. 2 (Black/Light Blue wire). If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Black/Light Blue wire between parking aid disable switch and ground. Ground point is located behind left kick panel.
  22. Check parking aid DISABLED Light Emitting Diode (LED). If parking aid DISABLED LED is okay, replace PAM. See PARKING AID MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If parking aid DISABLED LED is not okay, replace parking aid disable switch.
  23. Disconnect PAM harness connector C4014. PAM is located behind left "B" pillar trim panel. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If parking aid DISABLED Light Emitting Diode (LED) illuminates, repair short to voltage in Violet/Orange wire between PAM harness connector C4014 terminal No. 19 and parking aid disable switch terminal No. 6. See Figure and Fig 1 . If parking aid DISABLED LED does not illuminate, replace PAM. See PARKING AID MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  24. NOTE: If vehicle has been in an accident, parking aid sensors may not be aligned properly. Further body work may be necessary to bring bumper and parking aid sensors into correct alignment.
  25. Inspect bumper, parking aid sensors and holders for proper alignment. See AZIMUTH SYSTEM CHECK  and ELEVATION SYSTEM CHECK  under SYSTEM OPERATION CHECKS. If bumper and parking aid sensors are properly aligned, go to next step. If bumper or parking aid sensors are not properly aligned, realign sensors or replace bumper as necessary.
  26. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Set parking brake. Place shift lever in Reverse. If right reverse light illuminates, go to next step. If right reverse light does not illuminate, repair reverse light problem as necessary. See EXTERIOR LIGHTS in SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS article in ELECTRICAL.
  27. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect PAM harness connector C4014. PAM is located behind left "B" pillar trim panel. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Measure voltage between ground and PAM harness connector C4014 terminal No. 9 (Black/Pink wire). See Figure. If battery voltage exist, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, repair open in Black/Pink wire and test system operation. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
  28. Measure resistance between ground and PAM harness connector C4014 terminal No. 7 (Dark Green/Violet wire). See Figure. If resistance is 10 k/ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is more than 10 k/ohms, go to step  29.
  29. Ensure ignition switch is in LOCK position. Disconnect parking aid disable switch harness connector C365. Parking aid disable switch is located in center of front floor console finish panel. Measure resistance between ground and PAM harness connector C4014 terminal No. 7 (Dark Green/Violet wire). If resistance is more than 10 k/ohms, replace parking aid disable switch. See PARKING AID DISABLE SWITCH  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If resistance is 10 k/ohms or less, repair short to ground in Dark Green/Violet wire between PAM and parking aid disable switch. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
  30. While depressing parking aid disable switch, measure resistance between ground and PAM harness connector C4014 terminal No. 7 (Dark Green/Violet wire). If resistance is more than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, replace PAM. See PARKING AID MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  31. Disconnect parking aid disable switch harness connector C365. Parking aid disable switch is located in center of front floor console finish panel. Measure resistance between ground and PAM harness connector C4014 terminal No. 3 (Black/Light Blue wire). See Figure. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Black/Light Blue wire between PAM and ground. Ground point is located behind left kick panel.
  32. Measure resistance between parking aid disable switch terminals No. 1 and 2. See Fig 1. Resistance should be less than 35 ohms with switch pressed and 10 k/ohms or more with switch released. If resistance is not as specified, replace parking aid disable switch. See PARKING AID DISABLE SWITCH  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If resistance is as specified, replace PAM. See PARKING AID MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
