Test E: Memory Mirror Inoperative (With Power Folding Mirrors)

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Lincoln Blackwood. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Operate power mirrors. If power mirrors operate properly, go to next step. If power mirrors do not operate properly, go to TEST B: MIRRORS INOPERATIVE .
  2. Remove inoperative mirror door trim panel. See DOOR TRIM PANEL under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION in POWER WINDOWS - BLACKWOOD article. Disconnect inoperative mirror 2-pin harness connector. Measure voltage between ground and inoperative mirror 2-pin harness connector Violet/Light Green wire while holding power folding mirror switch to IN position. Measure voltage between ground and inoperative mirror 2-pin harness connector Violet/Yellow wire while holding power folding mirror switch to OUT position. If battery voltage exists at both circuits, replace power folding mirror and test system operation. See SIDE MIRROR ASSEMBLY . If battery voltage does not exist at one or both circuits, go to next step.
  3. Disconnect mirror control switch harness connector C577. Measure resistance between inoperative mirror 2-pin harness connector Violet/Light Green wire and mirror control switch harness connector C577 terminal No. 1 (Violet/Light Green wire). Measure resistance between inoperative mirror 2-pin harness connector Violet/Yellow wire and mirror control switch harness connector C577 terminal No. 6 (Violet/Yellow wire). See Fig 1. If both resistances are less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If either resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in appropriate wire between mirror control switch and inoperative mirror 2-pin harness connector. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
  4. Measure resistance between ground and inoperative folding mirror harness connector Violet/Yellow wire. Measure resistance between ground and power folding mirror harness connector Violet/Light Green wire. If both resistances are greater than 10 k/ohms, replace mirror control switch and test system operation. See MIRROR CONTROL SWITCH  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If either resistance is less than 10 k/ohms, repair short to ground in appropriate wire and test system operation. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
