Test H: Courtesy Lights Inoperative

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Lincoln Blackwood and 2002 Ford Pickup. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Measure voltage between ground and input side of fuses No. 14 (15-amp) and No. 15 (5-amp). If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, repair open in Tan/Black wire between central junction box and battery junction box. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
  2. Connect New Generation Star (NGS) tester to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located below left side of instrument panel, right of steering column. Monitor PID IGN_GEM while turning ignition switch from LOCK to RUN positions. If PID agrees with ignition switch positions, go to next step. If PID does not agree with ignition switch positions, repair open in appropriate ignition circuit. See POWER DISTRIBUTION in appropriate SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS article in ELECTRICAL.
  3. Retrieve and record continuous Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs), clear DTCs and perform Generic Electronic Module (GEM) self-test. If no DTCs are retrieved, go to next step. If DTC B1373 is retrieved, go to next step. If DTC B1313 or 1315 is retrieved, go to TEST L: BATTERY SAVER COMPONENTS INOPERATIVE . If DTC B1342 is retrieved, replace GEM and perform self-test.
  4. Using NGS tester in active command, turn INT LAMPS ON and OFF while monitoring PID INTLMP. If PID INTLMP does not agree with active command and displays OFFO-G, go to next step. If PID does not agree with active command and displays ON-B-, go to step  8. If PID INTLMP agrees with active command, go to step  10.
  5. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect interior light relay. Interior light relay is located in central junction box. Using NGS tester, set active command BATT SAVR to ON. Measure voltage between ground and interior light relay harness connector terminal No. 2. See Fig 1. If battery voltage does not exist, go to next step. If battery voltage does exist, check interior light relay for proper operation. See MICRO ISO RELAY  under COMPONENT TESTS. If interior light relay is okay, go to step  7. If interior light relay is defective, replace interior light relay, clear DTCs and retest system.
  6. Disconnect battery saver relay. Battery saver relay is located in central junction box. Measure resistance between battery saver relay connector terminal No. 5 and interior light relay connector terminal No. 2. See Fig 1. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, replace central junction box and retest system. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to test TEST L: BATTERY SAVER COMPONENTS INOPERATIVE .
  7. Disconnect GEM connector C201d. GEM is located on back side of central junction box. Measure resistance between interior light relay connector terminal No. 1 and GEM connector C201d terminal No. 15. See Figure and Fig 1 . If resistance is more than 5 ohms, replace central junction box. See appropriate MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK article. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, replace GEM and perform self-test. See appropriate MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK article.
  8. Check interior light relay for proper operation. See MICRO ISO RELAY  under COMPONENT TESTS. If interior light relay is okay, go to next step. If interior light relay is defective, replace interior light relay, clear DTCs and retest system.
  9. Remove GEM from central junction box connector C201d and leave harness connectors C270a and C270b connected. Measure voltage between ground and interior light relay connector terminal No. 1. See Figure and Fig 1 . If any voltage exists, replace central junction box. See appropriate MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK article. If voltage does not exist, replace GEM and perform self-test.
  10. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect interior light relay. Interior light relay is located in central junction box. Measure voltage between ground and interior light relay connector terminal No. 3. See Fig 1. If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, replace central junction box. See appropriate MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK article.
  11. Check interior light relay for proper operation. See MICRO ISO RELAY  under COMPONENT TESTS. If interior light relay is okay, go to next step. If interior light relay is defective, replace interior light relay, clear DTCs and retest system.
  12. Disconnect central junction box harness connector C270a. Measure resistance between interior light relay connector terminal No. 5 and central junction box connector C270a terminals No. 20 and 33. See Figure. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, replace central junction box. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, repair open in Black/Light Blue wire between central junction box harness connector C270a and inoperative courtesy light. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
