Test L: Battery Saver Components Inoperative (BLACKWOOD Only)

- Turn ignition to LOCK position. Measure voltage between ground and input side of fuses No. 14 (15-amp) and No. 15 (5-amp). Fuses No. 14 and 15 are located in central junction box. If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, check fuse No. 22 (50-amp) in battery junction box. If fuse is okay, repair open in Tan/Black wire between central junction box and battery junction box. If Tan/Black wire is okay, replace central junction box.
- Connect New Generation Star (NGS) tester to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located below left side of instrument panel, right of steering column. Monitor PID IGN_GEM while turning ignition switch from LOCK to RUN position. If PID agrees with ignition switch positions, go to next step. If PID does not agree with ignition switch positions, repair open in appropriate ignition circuit. See POWER DISTRIBUTION in appropriate SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS article in ELECTRICAL.
- Retrieve and record continuous Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs), clear DTCs and perform Generic Electronic Module (GEM) self-test. If no DTCs are retrieved, go to next step. If DTC B1313, B1315 or B1371 are retrieved, go to next step. If DTC B1302 is retrieved, go to step 10. If DTC 1342 is retrieved, replace GEM. See appropriate MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK article.
- Turn interior light on. Monitor PID BATSAV while turning PID BATSAV on and off with active command. If PID does not agree with active command and displays OFFO-G, go to next step. If PID does not agree with active command and displays ON-B-, go to step 8. If PID agrees with active command, go to step 10.
- Remove battery saver relay from central junction box. Battery saver relay is located in central junction box. Measure voltage between ground and battery saver relay connector terminal No. 1. See Figure. If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, replace central junction box and retest system.
- Check battery saver relay for proper operation. See MICRO ISO RELAY under COMPONENT TESTS. If battery saver relay is okay, go to next step. If battery saver relay is defective, replace battery saver relay, clear DTCs and retest system.
- Disconnect GEM from central junction box. Measure resistance between GEM connector C201d terminal No. 1 and battery saver relay connector terminal No. 2. See Figure and Figure . If resistance is 5 ohms or less, replace GEM and perform self-test. See appropriate MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK article. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, replace central junction box.
- Remove battery saver relay from central junction box. Check battery saver relay for proper operation. See MICRO ISO RELAY under COMPONENT TESTS. If battery saver relay is okay, go to next step. If battery saver relay is defective, replace battery saver relay, clear DTCs and retest system.
- Disconnect GEM from central junction box. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Measure voltage between ground and battery saver relay connector terminal No. 2. See Figure. If any voltage exists, replace central junction box and retest system. If voltage does not exist, replace GEM and perform self-test. See appropriate MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK article.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect accessory delay relay. Accessory delay relay is located in central junction box. Measure voltage between ground and accessory delay relay connector terminal No. 86. See Fig 1. If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, go to step 12.
- Disconnect central junction box harness connector C270b. Disconnect battery saver relay. Measure resistance between battery saver relay connector terminal No. 5 and central junction box connector terminal No. 32. See Figure and Figure . If resistance is more than 5 ohms, replace central junction box. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, repair open in Light Green/Orange wire between central junction box and appropriate courtesy light. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
- Remove battery saver relay from central junction box. Check battery saver relay for proper operation. See MICRO ISO RELAY under COMPONENT TESTS. If battery saver relay is okay, replace central junction box and test system operation. If battery saver relay is defective, replace battery saver relay, clear DTCs and retest system.
