Removal and Installation
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2005 Lincoln LS. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Remove the camshafts. For additional information, refer to VALVE TRAIN COMPONENTS - EXPLODED VIEW and CAMSHAFTS in this article .
- Remove and inspect the valve tappets and shims. For additional information, refer to ENGINE SYSTEM-GENERAL INFORMATION .
- To install, reverse the removal procedure.
CAUTION:
Do not use any means of marking the shims other than a permanent-type marker. Any scratches or paint on the shims can result in incorrect lash adjustments and severe engine damage.
CAUTION:
Record the shim and bucket tappet location. The shim and bucket tappet are positional and if installed in the incorrect location, engine damage can occur.
NOTE:
The number on the valve tappets only reflects the digits that follow the decimal. For example, a tappet with the number 0.650 has the thickness of 3.650 mm.
NOTE:
Coat the valve tappets and shims with clean engine oil.
