Test H: Transceiver Module Signal Not Received

  1. Connect New Generation Star (NGS) tester to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located below center of instrument panel, right of steering column. Using NGS tester, perform instrument cluster self-test. If DTC B1681 exists, go to next step. If DTC B1681 does not exist, system is functioning properly at this time. Check all encoded keys to ensure they are programmed.
  2. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect PATS transceiver module 4-pin harness connector C252. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Measure voltage between ground and PATS transceiver harness connector C252 terminal No. 2 (Red/Light Green wire). See Fig 1. If voltage is more than 9 volts, go to next step. If voltage is 9 volts or less, repair open in Red/Light Green wire between PATS transceiver module and central junction box. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
  3. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Measure resistance between ground and PATS transceiver module harness connector C252 terminal No. 1 (Black/Light Blue wire). See Fig 1. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Black/Light Blue wire between PATS transceiver module and ground. Ground point is located behind left kick panel. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Clear DTCs and repeat self-test.
  4. Reconnect PATS transceiver module harness connector C252. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Measure voltage between ground and PATS transceiver module harness connector C252 by backprobing terminal No. 3 (Gray/Orange wire). If voltage is 9 volts or less, go to next step. If voltage is more than 9 volts, go to step  6.
  5. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect PATS transceiver module harness connector C252. Measure resistance between ground and PATS transceiver module harness connector C252 terminal No. 3 (Gray/Orange wire). See Fig 1. If resistance is more than 100 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 100 ohms or less, check for short to ground in Gray/Orange wire between PATS and instrument cluster. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If Gray/Orange wire is okay, replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Cycle ignition switch to RUN position with 2 encoded ignition keys. Go to TEST I: POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE ID DOES NOT MATCH INSTRUMENT CLUSTER ID  to match new instrument cluster ID to PCM. Repeat self-test and clear DTCs.
  6. Measure resistance in Gray/Orange wire between PATS transceiver module harness connector C252 terminal No. 3 and instrument cluster 22-pin C220b harness connector terminal No. 14. See Fig 1 and Fig 2 . If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Gray/Orange wire between PATS and instrument cluster. Clear DTCs and repeat self-test.
  7. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Reconnect PATS transceiver module harness connector C252. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Measure voltage between ground and PATS transceiver module harness connector C252 by backprobing terminal No. 4 (White/Light Green wire). If voltage is 9 volts or less, go to next step. If voltage is more than 9 volts, go to step  9.
  8. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect PATS transceiver module harness connector C252. Measure resistance between ground and PATS transceiver module harness connector C252 terminal No. 4 (White/Light Green wire). See Fig 1. If resistance is more than 100 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 100 ohms or less, check for short to ground in White/Light Green wire between PATS and instrument cluster. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If wire is okay, replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Cycle ignition switch to RUN position using 2 encoded ignition keys. Go to TEST I: POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE ID DOES NOT MATCH INSTRUMENT CLUSTER ID  to match new instrument cluster ID to PCM. Repeat self-test and clear DTCs.
  9. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Reconnect PATS transceiver module harness connector C252 and instrument cluster harness connectors. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Measure voltage between ground and PATS transceiver module harness connector C252 by backprobing terminal No. 4 (White/Light Green wire). Using NGS tester, trigger instrument cluster active command TRANSMIT SIGNAL COMMAND to ON. Voltage should drop from more than 9 volts to less than one volt, when instrument cluster active command is triggered ON. If voltage is as specified, go to next step. If voltage is not as specified, check continuity in White/Light Green wire between PATS transceiver module harness connector C252 and instrument cluster 22-pin C220b harness connector. See Fig 1 and Fig 2 . If White/Light Green wire is okay, replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Cycle ignition switch to RUN position using 2 encoded ignition keys. Go to TEST I: POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE ID DOES NOT MATCH INSTRUMENT CLUSTER ID  to match new instrument cluster ID to PCM. Repeat self-test and clear DTCs.
  10. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Replace PATS transceiver module. See PATS TRANSCEIVER MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Using NGS tester, perform instrument cluster self-test. If DTC B1681 exists, go to next step. If DTC B1681 does not exist, system is functioning properly at this time.
  11. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Cycle ignition switch to RUN position using 2 encoded ignition keys. Go to TEST I: POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE ID DOES NOT MATCH INSTRUMENT CLUSTER ID  to match new instrument cluster ID to PCM. Repeat self-test. If DTC B1681 exists, repair open or short in Black/Light Blue, Red/Light Green, White/Light Green, and/or Gray/Orange wire to PATS transceiver module as necessary. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If DTC B1681 does not exist, system is functioning properly at this time.
