Removal (3.0L)

CAUTION:
Synchro Positioning Tool (303-589) must be used during installation of new synchronizer assembly. Failure to follow this procedure will result in fuel system being out of time with engine, possibly causing engine damage.
CAUTION:
Do NOT turn crankshaft or camshaft during removal and installation procedure or fuel system control will be out of time. This could possibly cause engine damage.
- Rotate crankshaft until No. 1 piston is at TDC of compression stroke. Ensure TDC mark on crankshaft aligns with timing mark. Note position of electrical connector on CMP sensor.
- Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove CMP sensor from synchronizer. See REMOVAL & INSTALLATION (3.0L & 4.0L) .
- Remove the camshaft synchronizer bolt. Remove camshaft synchronizer from engine block.
NOTE:
Oil pump driveshaft might come out with the camshaft synchronizer. If so, retrieve the oil pump driveshaft before proceeding.
