Test Procedure

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 8 other vehicles, including the 2005 Ford RV Cutaway, 2005 Ford Pickup, 2005 Ford F550 Super Duty, 2005 Ford F450 Super Duty, and 2005 Ford Excursion. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. C1 PRELIMINARY DIAGNOSIS FOR DTCS P0830 OR P0833
    • DTCs P0830 and P0833 are set if the PCM does not detect a CPP switch change of state during the Key On Engine Running (KOER) self-test.
    • Possible causes:
      • clutch pedal not fully applied and released during the self-test
      • signal circuit open or shorted
      • CPP switch
      • PCM
    • Carry out a visual inspection.
    • Retrieve and record any continuous and on-demand DTCs.
    • Clear all DTCs.
    • Carry out the KOER self-test.

Is DTC P0830 or P0833 present?

    Yes No
    For P0830, GO to  C2.
    For P0833, GO to  C7.
UNABLE to duplicate the condition. CHECK for a loose connection, and damaged or corroded terminals or pins. WIGGLE the harness attempting to recreate the fault. REPAIR as necessary. REFER to SYMPTOM CHARTS - 6.0L DIESEL if a driveability concern exists.
  2. C2 CHECK THE CPP SWITCH FOR VOLTAGE
    • Key OFF.
    • Disconnect the CPP switch.
    • Key ON, engine OFF.
    • Measure the voltage between the CPP switch pin 5, harness side and ground.

Is the voltage between 4.5 and 5.5 volts?

    Yes No
GO to  C3. GO to  C4.
  3. C3 CHECK THE CPP SWITCH GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
    • Key OFF.
    • Measure the resistance between the CPP switch pin 6, harness side and ground.

Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?

    Yes No
INSTALL a new CPP switch. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
  4. C4 CHECK THE CPP SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
    • Key OFF.
    • Disconnect the PCM body harness connector.
    • Measure the resistance between the PCM body connector pin 27, harness side and the CPP switch pin 5, harness side.

Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?

    Yes No
GO to  C5. REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
  5. C5 CHECK THE CPP SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
    • Measure the resistance between the PCM body connector pin 27, harness side and ground.

Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?

    Yes No
GO to  C6. REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
  6. C6 CHECK THE CPP SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
    • Key ON, engine OFF.
    • Measure the voltage between the PCM body connector pin 27, harness side and ground.

    Is any voltage indicated?

    Yes No
REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. INSTALL a new PCM. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
  7. C7 CHECK THE CPP SWITCH FOR VOLTAGE
    • Key OFF.
    • Disconnect the CPP switch.
    • Key ON, engine OFF.
    • Measure the voltage between the CPP switch pin 3, harness side and ground.

Is the voltage greater than 10.5 volts?

    Yes No
GO to  C8. REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
  8. C8 CHECK THE CPP SWITCH
    • Key OFF.
    • Measure the resistance between the CPP switch pin 3, component side and the CPP switch pin 4, component side while applying and releasing the clutch pedal.

Is the resistance less than 5 ohms with the clutch pedal released and greater than 10,000 ohms with the clutch pedal applied?

    Yes No
GO to  C9. INSTALL a new CPP switch. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
  9. C9 CHECK THE CPP SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
    • Disconnect the PCM body harness connector.
    • Measure the resistance between the PCM body harness connector pin 36, harness side and the CPP switch pin 4, harness side.

Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?

    Yes No
GO to  C10. REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
  10. C10 CHECK THE CPP SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
    • Key ON, engine OFF.
    • Measure the voltage between the PCM body harness connector pin 36, harness side and ground.

    Is any voltage indicated?

    Yes No
REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. INSTALL a new PCM. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
