Signal Function

The exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) throttle position (EGRTP) actuator modifies the air flow into the intake manifold by controlling a throttle plate within the throttle body. A pulse width modulated (PWM) signal from the powertrain control module (PCM) is used to control the rotary motion of the EGRTP actuator. The throttle plate position is determined by an input signal from the EGR throttle position (EGRTP) sensor.

The EGRTP sensor is a rotary position sensor. A 5-volt reference voltage supplied by the PCM, is utilized by the sensor to provide an input signal that is proportional to the angle of the throttle plate.

NOTE: The PCM will activate the EGRTP actuator and perform a full sweep of the throttle plate for each key cycle with the IAT temperature greater than 0°C (32°F).
