Pinpoint Test E: The Chime Sounds When The Driver Door Is Ajar (No Key In Ignition And Headlamps Off)

  1. E1 CHECK CIRCUIT 158 (BK/PK) FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE 
    • Disconnect: Instrument Cluster C220b.
    • Measure the voltage between the instrument cluster C220b-15, circuit 158 (BK/PK), harness side and ground.

    • Is any voltage present? 
    • Yes  : GO to  E2.
    • No  : GO to  E3.
  2. E2 CHECK THE KEY-IN-IGNITION SWITCH 
    • Disconnect: Ignition Switch C250.
    • Measure the voltage between the instrument cluster C220b-15, circuit 158 (BK/PK), harness side and ground.

    • Is any voltage present? 
    • Yes  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
    • No  : INSTALL a new ignition switch. REFER to STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES . TEST the system for normal operation.
  3. E3 CHECK FOR CORRECT INSTRUMENT CLUSTER OPERATION 
    • Disconnect all the instrument cluster connectors.
    • Check for:
      • Corrosion
      • Pushed-out pins
    • Connect all the instrument cluster connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
    • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
    • Is the concern still present? 
    • Yes  : INSTALL a new instrument cluster. REFER to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER . TEST the system for normal operation.
    • No  : The system is operating at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
