Pinpoint Test U: The Integrated Circuit Display Is Inoperative

  1. U1 RETRIEVE AND RECORD THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER DTCs FROM BOTH THE CONTINUOUS AND ON-DEMAND SELF-TESTS 
    • Check for the recorded PCM DTCs from the continuous and on-demand self-tests.
    • Are DTCs B1255, B1257, or B2143 retrieved? 
    • Yes  : If DTC B1255 or B1257 is present, GO to  U3.

      If DTC B2143 is present, GO to  U6.

    • No  : If the compass is inoperative, REFER to INFORMATION AND MESSAGE CENTER to continue diagnosis of the compass.

      If the compass operates correctly, GO to U2.

  2. U2 VERIFY THE SPEEDOMETER OPERATION 
    • Operate the vehicle and verify the speedometer operation.
    • Does the speedometer operate correctly? 
  3. U3 CHECK THE AMBIENT AIR TEMPERATURE SENSOR FUNCTION 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Ambient Air Temperature Sensor C132.
    • Measure the resistance between the ambient air temperature sensor C132-1, component side and the ambient air temperature sensor C132-2, component side at ambient temperature of 18°-29°C (65°-85°F).

    • Is the resistance between 8,000 ohms and 14,000 ohms? 
    • Yes  : GO to  U4.
    • No  : INSTALL a new ambient air temperature sensor. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
  4. U4 CHECK CIRCUIT 767 (LB/OG) FOR AN OPEN AND A SHORT TO GROUND 
    • Disconnect: Instrument Cluster C220a.
    • Measure the resistance between the instrument cluster C220a-13, circuit 767 (LB/OG), harness side and the ambient air temperature sensor C132-1, circuit 767 (LB/OG), harness side; and between the instrument cluster C220a-13, circuit 767 (LB/OG), harness side and ground.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms between the instrument cluster and the ambient air temperature sensor, and greater than 10,000 ohms between the instrument cluster and ground? 
    • Yes  : GO to  U5.
    • No  : REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
  5. U5 CHECK CIRCUIT 242 (DG) FOR AN OPEN AND A SHORT TO GROUND 
    • Measure the resistance between the instrument cluster C220a-14, circuit 242 (DG), harness side and the ambient air temperature sensor C132-2, circuit 242 (DG), harness side; and between the instrument cluster C220a-14, circuit 242 (DG), harness side and ground.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms between the instrument cluster and the ambient air temperature sensor, and greater than 10,000 ohms between the instrument cluster and ground? 
    • Yes  : GO to  U5.
    • No  : REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
  6. U6 CHECK FOR CORRECT INSTRUMENT CLUSTER OPERATION 
    • Disconnect all the instrument cluster connectors.
    • Check for:
      • Corrosion
      • Pushed-out pins
    • Connect all the instrument cluster connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
    • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
    • Is the concern still present? 
    • Yes  : INSTALL a new instrument cluster. REFER to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER . CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
    • No  : The system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
