Removal and Installation

- Drain the cooling system. For additional information, refer to COOLING SYSTEM DRAINING, FILLING AND BLEEDING .
- Remove the engine cooling fan and the fan shroud. For additional information, refer to COOLING FAN - BLADE, CLUTCH AND SHROUD .
- Remove the drive belt. For additional information, refer to ACCESSORY DRIVE .
- Remove the bolts and the coolant pump pulley.
- To install, tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-ft).
- Remove the bolt and disconnect the heater outlet tube assembly from the coolant pump.
- Clean and inspect the O-ring seal. Install a new O-ring seal if necessary. To install, lubricate the O-ring seal with clean engine coolant.
- To install, tighten to 10 Nm 89 lb-in).
- Remove the nuts for the A/C compressor mounting bracket support.
- To install, tighten to 28 Nm (21 lb-ft).
- Remove the A/C compressor mounting bracket support upper bolt. Loosen the A/C compressor mounting bracket support lower bolt. Position the bracket and bolt forward until they contact the power steering pump pulley. Position the A/C compressor mounting bracket aside.
- To install, tighten to 48 Nm (35 lb-ft).
- Release the clamp and disconnect the lower radiator hose.
- Remove the fasteners and the coolant pump.
- To install, tighten to 28 Nm (21 lb-ft).
- Remove and discard the coolant pump gasket.
- Clean the coolant pump gasket mating surfaces with a plastic scraper and metal surface prep. Follow the directions on the packaging.
- To install, reverse the removal procedure.
CAUTION:
Do not use metal scrapers, wire brushes, power abrasive discs, or other abrasive means to clean the sealing surfaces. These may cause scratches and gouges resulting in leak paths. Use a plastic scraper to clean the sealing surfaces.
